Um ... wha?

As God is my witness, I have no idea what to do with this. And then this.

A bit weird, but a promising development. Under the circumstances, Mr. Erl should be encouraged. It would be a shame if he were to stop blogging now.

In my avuncular opinion, he's just young. People like him should be spared from having to listen bitter, ignorant, slightly older or aging rightwing cranks whose biliousness is toxic for impressionable people.

it's to his credit that despite being bombarded by very harsh criticism, and wingnut-coddled to a point that could make someone imagine they should crawl back into the womb - wingnut womb, no less, Erl comes through with a mind of his own. Reminds me of a couple of buddies who seemed to wake up to reality after breaking away from a cult. Good for him.

Let's just hope that this is not a Weiner the Pasty moment...

"Wingnut-coddled"....very apt. You notice how motivated the wingnuts are to re-inforce each other's delusions and petty prejudices with all the "great post!"'s and "finally someone gets it!"'s, not to mention the endless series of anecdotal evidence, the credibility of which is highly suspect?

Exactly like a cult.

I'm hoping Mr. Erl has had some sort of epiphany but ... maybe he was just replaced with an open-minded pod person?

What? It could happen.

having been among those that gave mr. erl a swat, i have to applaud his gumption. it is never easy to break away from the well trodden path. here's to a long life of self directed learning, no matter where it might take him. cheers mr. erl.

Well isn’t that interesting?

From eyes wide shut to open-minded skepticism. Now there’s a promising development.

Kind of warms the old cochleae cordis of the heart, doesn’t it?

Is it conservative April Fools day in Canada?

I believe that people can change, if they want to and there is a good reason. But I've yet to ever see a conservative come back from the path of evil.

Perhaps I'm just cynical, but you'll all forgive me if I believe this kid's full of shit. Especially since he still thinks we all worship Marx. If he can't see past generalizations then I doubt he's had any serious transformative experience.

EinMD — Having exchanged a few e-mails with the guy in the past, I’m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else, he’s almost painfully sincere. One hopes that in time he'll get past the facile generalizations that are stock and trade of the political discourse these days.

Oh stop it already, you Commie.

I'm mostly away from internet tube access these days, but I'll be making more noise again in January.

Happy New Year to all.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm a pinko. Workers of the world unite!

Happy New Year to you Crabby.

By the way, interesting to note how he's received the cold shoulder from all his fair-weather Tory friends, isn't it? All well and good when he was useful to them, but when he changes his tune a mite, they just spit him out like a bit of unpleasant gristle.

are we any better?

Nope.

I do find both posts a little over the top however.

It's almost like he felt he has escaped a cult. That actually scares me a little.

Well, I can't speak for others, but I like to think I'm better than that. Hey... I actually reached out the guy when he was way far gone into the Kool-Aid®, so yeah, I'm always open to discussion and wish people well on the ventures, whatever path they choose to take. [This is where Crabgrass smacks me upside the head and calls me a Commie.]

Dave, his posts were always over the top and overwrought with melodrama, so these one's don't seem that much out of the ordinary.

painfully sincere - that's what I felt also. Don't know where Erl will land, but I believe he broke away. I've know people who thought they were conservative because they were raised to think they were, then they go to school, engage in discussion, learn, and wake up.
