No, Cathie, you're missing the point.

Over here, Cathie from Canada unwisely jumps on the Digby bandwagon to outlaw torture. Personally, I think that would be extremely short-sighted in view of recent developments:

Shocking: Ambrose Offers No Details

Today was the supposed to be the day that Rona Ambrose finally fleshed out the Conservative environmental "approach" (they don't call it a "plan" anymore because that would give the impression that they have one). Appearing in committee, Ambrose stuck to generalities and platitudes:

"It's time for a brand new approach to the environment," she told the committee.

"This approach is going to address the real priorities of Canadians in a tangible and accountable way."

She was short on details of what the "approach" will include, saying the fine points will be revealed "very soon."

"Our approach will deliver clean air to Canadians to protect their health while also making genuine progress on reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as other contaminants that are harmful to our health," Ambrose said.

And since it's clear that Ambrose has no intention of releasing any of these details voluntarily, I believe it's critically important to keep waterboarding open as an option. I'm sure she'd talk sooner or later.

And if that didn't work, there's always the dogs.

Yes, the Harperights do seem to be operating behind a veil of smoke, mist and confusion.
Their environmental approach seem to more and more reflect an industrial sanctioned Dominionist view of the world.
Nature is there for the taking. And trashing, and raping.
Seems there is a Christian Fundie agenda being exercised in sympathy with the American movement.
Why the reluctance to ban bottom trawling? Is some imaginary friend going to magically multiply the cod?
Or maybe that isn't such a problem in Alberta? Look where bottom trawling got Foley.
Behind the secrecy and closed doors this bunch is either too afraid to make any move or plan to attain their goals by intentional inaction where doing nothing ultimately achieves their ends. I fear the latter.
