So remind me again why we had this election?
Harper called this election because he is an opportunist: the Cons' coffers were brimming over with money to fund all the attack ads his little blue heart desired - and he wanted to get ahead of some bad shit coming his way.
So he gained a dozen and a half new MPs ...to him, it's worth a few million dollars of taxpayers' money to re-elect a minority government.
What a fraud he is.
I'm with ti-guy. It's a delightful result - although fewer New Conservative MPs would have been funnier. Still, Harper's such a sore winner, perhaps he'll quit and they'll have one less. Whatever. He gets to wear this one like a cheap suit.
We have the same targets to kick around.... Baird, Poilievre, Flaherty, Oda, Finley, Toews, O'Connor, Ritz, Clement, Strahl, Day, Ambrose, Sweet, Guergis, MacKay among others etc... They're all back in. Damn.

I know that this is an odd thing to be excited by but the NDP elected a fucking MP in fucking Quebec. In Outremont for gawds sake!
This is, quite probably, the worst result we could have attained.
A Harper majority would have left no excuses for the conservatives in the coming shit-storm. They would have had to either give the so-cons the morality policing that they've been calling for for so long, or would have had to tell the so-cons to go screw themselves. Either way would have put the conservatives in the woodshed for the next generation or so, and revealed the bald-faced lie that is the Conservative "management" of the economy.
A smaller Harper minority, or a gain in Liberal seats might have kept the knives in the Liberal party sheathed so that they wouldn't be able to cut their own throats with an expensive leadership campaign giving Harper a defacto majority for his incrementally dismantling what makes Canada great -- meaning we could have kept Big Daddy in check.
But this? Stephen's lying ass can stick around promising the so-cons that he can't do it now because he's in the minority and Canadians won't accept their rights being trampled even for the Great White God, and at the same time he'll have the ability to Friedman this country so that we can join Iceland's coveted status as seeking help from the IMF.. all the while blaming it on the opposition that prevents him from getting shit done.
My sole consolation, given my nest egg, I'm not the one who's going to be suffering, and I'll happily take advantage of the Albertan idiots around Calgary who never got beyond the idea that it was the NEP that caused the last crash and not a complete reliance on, and pandering to, a single sector industry to make up our economy.
Oddly enough, I'm in one of those upper middle tax bracket thingies too, and somehow, I suspect that my nest egg with get paid out to big corporations... I am amazed by the number of "progressives" who are willing to say, "I got cash and conservatives like cash, they rest of you enjoy..."
THAT kinda thinking is why the economy, amongst other things, spooked Canada into voting Conservative.
On another note, screw partisanship.
