You know, all those people who accuse Canadians of being historically ignorant should really save their criticism for the ruling class that people like Dana Perino represent. They can't even be arsed to understand major historical events? I thought that was the huge benefit of living in powerful countries, unlike boring backwaters where nothing much happens anyway.
As to Perino, honey when you look like that you HAVE to know anything! Yummmmm.
You are coarsening political discourse with your sexism! Hate crime!
...I can't stand blonds. They all remind me of Ann Coulter now.
I think what's significant about this is that she didn't even have enough sense to keep her ignorance hidden. Lordy...we can't even find good liars these days.
I'm not willing to give up on an entire class of woman because of the occassional screeching harpy. Besides, there's not cute or perky about Coulter -- the name Skeletor jumps to mind for some reason.

Actually, ti-guy, not needing to know history is the benefit of living in big, powerful countries. It's the guys in the little countries who have to worry about getting crushed when the big guys fight, who need to know history.
On the brighter side, not all Americans understand the technical issues about Canada being a separate country. It's not like Canadians are Mexicans. Not that there's anything wrong with being a Mexican. But who, beside me, whose own uncle was a frostback, worries about illegal Canadian immigrants?
(Somebody, pleeze, how do you make quote come out initalics on the web?)
My wife is almost a full decade younger than Perino, and her reaction to when I told her that the WH press secretary didn't know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was how could anyone be so ignorant/stupid and have such a high profile job, stopped and then added oh ye that's right we are talking about GWB's crowd aren't we.
Wow, that is a really major level of ignorance, especially given that the Cuban Missile crisis has been generally seen by the public as the time most close to all out nuclear war in the Cold War. How she could not know such a basic fact and work representing the President of the USA speaks volumes for the lack of intellectual credentialing used within Bushco for its top hires. Not that this comes as any great surprise to any of us that have actually been paying attention all along of course, but still wow what incredible ignorance on display, and I wasn't alive for that crisis either, although I am several years older than her, and it was something I grew up hearing about because it underscored just how dangerous the Cold War was, and she is old enough to have grown up in it so I find her ignorance of this incident truly stunning even for a Bushco hire.
I used to have this line I used on Republicans in bars that for Republicans, history began with Time. My meaning was that Republicans were fixated at the level of oral tradition, which, for Republicans, went was far back as the grandparents could remember. It was common, when I first started using that line, to have grandparents who had learned to read just when Time started publishing. These days, we're lucky if Gop grandparents are old enough to remember the end of WWII.
This, then, to me, seems hard to figure, even from your usual Republican.
RT, be ashamed. Are you insinuating that because Perino's attractive she's stupid? Tsk, tsk. Now if you'd insinuated she was stupid because she's a Republican, kool-aid drinking, mouthpiece - well, that's an entirely different story.
So what would you say if I told you I could kick your ass sideways at Trivial Pursuit because, like Rosie Perez's character in White Men Can't Jump, "I am weighted down with more useless knowledge than anyone else alive ..."

Arsed? Typo or Freudian slip? :-)

I bet she’s hopeless at Trivial Pursuit.
