Dear Blogging Tories: What the fuck?

Seriously ... at first, it was kind of amusing. Now, though, it's getting downright creepy. I mean, really ... do you people just not know how to use The Google or what?

It's entertaining to suggest that the vast majority of you get your marching orders directly from Sandra Buckler (except for Dr. Roy, who gets his from the screeching voices inside his head, but that's another story). But, come on, not a single DMCA-related posting from the entire aggregator?

And, yes, we all understand that it's a tough job covering the shit out of sexy pictures on someone's laptop but, seriously, I am starting to get genuinely creeped out. This is not normal, so we have to ask -- what's up? Do you just need URLs to help you get started? A tutorial? "Horrible Right-wing Legislation for Complete Idiots?" What? What exactly will it take to get your attention? Or, as we all suspect, has the memo already come down to just look the other way?

Like I said, it started off being sort of funny. Now, it's just not funny anymore. It's scary.

DEAR MAINSTREAM MEDIA: On the off chance that some of you accidentally trip over this humble soapbox, don't you think there might be a story here? Really, isn't there something at least a little bit newsworthy in the purely Stepford wife avoidance of one of the biggest issues to hit the House of Commons in some time?

I mean, it's not as if the Blogging Tories make a habit of avoiding legalistic issues. After all, it wasn't that long ago that you couldn't swing a dead cat without whapping into one of them howling and pissing about same-sex marriage, and religious freedom, and Christian persecution and related ignorant bullshit.

So what's different now? Given that the DMCA legislation has the potential to truly affect all of us, and in far more hideous ways, aren't you just a wee bit curious about the crushingly deafening silence coming out of Stephen Taylor's gaggle of slavishly obedient attack puppies?

Come on ... take a chance, look into it ... surely, there's at least a small news piece there somewhere. At the very least, you could write about how they, collectively, don't have a freaking clue as to what the rest of us are talking about.

Um ... on second thought, that's not really news, is it? Just forget I mentioned it. Carry on.

I'm sorry. I'll tell Sandra that henceforth I'll start seeking your advice for topical subject matter.

You want to know why I haven't blogged about our forthcoming DMCA clone? Because I haven't read it yet. And I'm pretty sure I know what you think of people who speak first and investigate later.

Okay ti-guy, time for your snide remark.

And yet, Aaron, you seem to have copious amounts of free time to share your wisdom related to James Moore's girlfriend.

At least we now understand what's been keeping you from the important stuff. Thanks for clearing that up.

By the way, Aaron, it's really quite puzzling how someone who is a self-described "student-at-law" could be so profoundly uninterested in one of the most significant legal issues set to be introduced in Canada's House of Commons in a long time.

Baffling, really.

You fail to appreciate that Aaron has attained a zen-like state of equanimity that not only enables him to transcend the sordid plain of the average libtard, but also to be selectively oblivious. As he writes: I came to discover - however improbable it seemed - that a policy which I strongly opposed, if implemented, might not irreversibly destroy Canada. And most importantly, I came to understand, astonishingly, that the overwhelming majority of the population would carry on its business as usual, no matter which party was in government. Of course some NDP busy-body going off the rails about James Moore's computer is another matter and warrants great degrees of indignant outrage and intense scrutiny.

Perspective CC... perspective. Stop being all hysterical about... stuff. Life will go on, after all.

You have to understand the "conservative" chain of knowledge. The "conservatives" are simply waiting around for those who aren't intellectually lazy and who enjoy critical thinking to research the issues (with credible sources) and read the proposed legislation, who will then explain to everyone else what the key points are. Once that's done, the "conservatives" will kick into high gear, attacking all that in their usual fashion...with language parsing, by regurgitating factoids and talking points fed to them by interested parties (here, the corporations and the PR-firm/media sustained by them), with that curious brand of "conservative" logic that defies challenge and of course with smear and personal attacks. Then, the Wingnut Wurlitzer will kick in, with every single "conservative" repeating and amplifying what their comrades have said already, supplementing that with a cacophony of "ditto's" and "great post's!" and allusions to the idea that all regulation of property (even non-physical property) represents communism.

We're not dealing with human minds anymore. We're dealing with corporatised minds...a hive mind, in fact.

As you so correctly pointed out, it’s such a fluffy topic, it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to write those posts - hardly “copious”. They’re so open/close there’s no need for hours of analysis. But if you think I’m going to tackle a subject like IP on a whim, um, no.

There are days I really try to serious engage the left. But then I realize there's no point doing it in places like this because you people are more interested in insulting me.

No one insulted you until you came over and provided a rather unconvincing defense on behalf of "The United Blogging Tories of the World."

If you want to engage "the Left," being defensive isn't the way to go about it.

In any case, I always recommend that smarter Conservatives not bother engaging their adversaries (personally, the Right hasn't said anything useful to me in over 30 years), but rather, should spend more time educating their co-partisans. Believe me, they are in dire need of it.

So let’s do a quick re-cap here. Aaron says he hasn’t bothered to read the proposed legislation yet (we can only speculate why) and isn’t up to speed with the issue. But at the same time, he’s got the time and inclination to knock off several posts involving no intellectual effort whatsoever about some totally frivolous thing that occurred in the HOC where he can score some cheap partisan “victory.” Aaron points out that getting into the issue of intellectual property would be “hard work” (not his words, but you know what I mean) and then throws up his hands about the futility of “engaging” the Left because they’re only interested in attacking him.

So, we’ve got: a) laziness; b) more laziness; c) a failure to prioritize; d) partisan politicking; and, e) victimization.

Yep, that would be our Blogging Tories alright!

Aaron:

That's your defense? That IP and the DMCA is too difficult a topic and that you're suited only for fluff pieces? Man, I'd hate to be admitting something like that. But that's just me.

And does that attitude of intellectual sloth generalize to the entire BT blogroll? Now that I think about it, it would explain so much, wouldn't it?

Off-topic:

Former media mogul Conrad Black given prison sentence of 78 to 97 months.

Gee, the Robber Bride must be rushing off to Kinko's right about now to have hundreds of copies of her updated résumé printed, seeing as how her enterprise has been decidedly down-sized.

ALW said...

Good grief - I don't think I've ever defended the Blogging Tories as a whole!

It's a time issue, people. Coming here to write a comment takes thirty seconds. Writing a serious, meaningful post on an issue as wide-ranging and complex as IP is several hours of work.

You can call that "lazy" if you want to, but I call it "not neglecting my paid employment"

Red Tory said...

Six or so years in the klink, huh? I guess we can look forward to a whopper of a new book out of this deal.

I love it when I'm addressed as "people."

For once CC and his cult following have it correct about the IP and DMCA crap.

It needs to be discussed on BT so a large amount of people can read about it. Having it discussed on left wing blogs will mean few will know anything about it.

This is just my original thought about that, it should not be copied in whole or in part etc. etc. etc.

Yes, Wayne ... linking to an article in the Globe and Mail has certainly contributed to the discourse. How did we ever get along without you?

Yup, Wayne's a clown/fraud. Is he in the employ of Aaron Lee Wudrick? It would be irresponsible NOT to speculate.

we really should thank wayne for demonstrating a point, one told in time stamps: the left leads and the right brings up the rear.

well done, wayne! :)
