The first rule of holes, Walker, ...

Blogging Tory Walker Morrow, while fighting gamely, is slowly burying himself under his own inconsistencies and contradictions back here:

Ti-Guy - I'm sorry if my trying to engage in a conversation with you has put you off. Perhaps you're simply not used to the idea of a conversation without an echo chamber.

Yes, Walker ... as a member of Stephen Taylor's Blogging Tories, you're just the person to give us a stern talking-to about echo chambers. But do continue.

To be fair, Walker does admit when he is wrong and has certain facts incorrect...

Sadly, in a true Conservative fashion, keeps on adding erroneous arguments...

If someone can be so wrong on so many little details, maybe they would realize that their complete argument and assumptions are completely false...

I'm sure that if someone started debating Walker Morrow on his blog, the echo chamber of Stephen Taylor's blithering idiots would make a discussion impossible...

I've been following that thread, and what's most maddening is that Walker seems genuinely capable of intelligent conversation. But every time he does the right thing, he quickly backslides into eye-rollingly stupid BT-speak.

That, I think, is what's frustrating everyone else in that thread, and why they're inevitably going to write him off. He's clearly not an idiot; he just insists on playing one on the Intertoobz.

That's a shame.

Always been the case before. When I first happened upon KKKate's blog, I actually tried to talk to her, but her idiot commenters just turned the whole thing into an unpleasant, brutish swarming. That she seemed to enjoy that happening on her blog revealed to me what kind of person she really is.

I do think Walker's a reasonable type and he is young. I hope CC doesn't pick on him.

I've already opined that I think Walker is capable of reasonable discourse. But I suspect you're right in that if someone tried to engage him at his blog, the shrieking of the BT echo chamber howler monkeys would drive off anyone who was trying to chat.

As proof, one need only notice that, even in that earlier thread here at CC HQ during which people are making the effort, who else but Twatsy shows up with his, "BLAR HAR HAR! OMFG! ROTFLMAO! Stupid leftards!!!!" Which I deleted, of course.

It would, naturally, be far worse at Walker's blog, since you know that shrieking retards like Twatsy and his favourite fellatrix "mahmood" would show up to drag the discourse down to their level.

I have no intention of abusing Walker at this point. I want to see where this goes.

It was in this very case. The first commenter on the post you linked to was an insufferable harridan by the name of "Bec" who delights in calling Kady O'Malley a "bitch," (for doing her job too well) and, naturally, never gets called on her sexist insult by her fellow Conservatives.

Note the delicate approach to civility in the following:

"This is a witchhunt and the opposition AH's could give a RA about CHRISTMAS."

She must have learned that in charm school.

What's become painfully obvious is that a number of right-wing Canadian blogs are now contaminated beyond recovery. They have become so infested with right-wing howler monkeys that even reasonable people who show up and try to have a conversation are immediately shouted down and eventually give up and walk away in frustration.

SDA is, of course, the textbook example, but the disease is spreading. It's as if these people think that every conservative blog in Canada needs defending and insist on showing up to drive any progressives out of town. That seems to be their definition of victory.

It's even happening at conservative blogs that have the potential to be readable. The blog authors try to be sane, the howler monkeys move in and set up shop and, in short order, the blog turns into total crap.

And as the perfect example, we have the commenters at that very post at Walker's. Unsurprisingly, creepy cyberstalker Patrick Ross (who follows my every blog post and link) drops by to wax eloquent. But Twatsy's presence means that anyone -- and I really do mean anyone -- who tries to engage Walker from a progressive perspective -- will be treated to "HAHAHAHA! ROTFL!! OMFG!!! Stupid leftards!!!!!", then insulted.

In short, by allowing Patrick in, Walker has just trashed the value of his blog. There is now absolutely no value in going there anymore.

It's ironic, isn't it? For many conservative Canadian bloggers, the only way they can now participate in a reasonable discussion is to go elsewhere, since their own blogs are now unlivable.

I'd say it has spread to every online venue that has open commenting. MacLean's blogs have been unreadable for quite a while now. Well, they're still readable (barely), but discussion is impossible.

I've come to believe that the situation is irremediable. In fact, I'm on the verge of believing quite seriously that it's all part of a move on the part of a faction of the corporate media to convince relatively intelligent, decent, common sense people that we are surrounded and outnumbered by hostile and irrational cretins, although that may in fact be the actual reality.
