AFTERSNARK: Wente so conveniently summarizes the totally contrived sympathy emanating from so many of Canada's phony wanks:
Why are we in Afghanistan? To do good, of course. To beat back the Taliban so Afghans can build a secure and peaceful state where little girls can go to school ...
Here's a thought, folks -- let's first make sure our kids can go to school. Then we can worry about the Afghans. Does that sound fair? No, really, does that work for you?

I suspect Wente's tender concern for the well being of Afghans is at least partly sincere. She certainly doesn't want those weird-talking, weird-dressing brown people coming over HERE.
She just emailed me to say "Great minds, etc."

Wente's mind jumped the shark when she wrote that she would leave Canada if anyone ever said the word constitution to her again.
I'm sure for what The Globe pays Wente, they could hire two hungry and motivated journalists (which means anyone with a BA who can research, write and think) to do actual reporting.
And the newspapers expect the rest of us to mourn their demise?
