Fuck. Me.

Somebody else run with this -- I just want to go off somewhere and chew on some aluminum foil to make me forget I read it.

OOOOOOH, THAT'S A GOOD POINT: Borrowing from a comment over at PZ's, the rationalization for keeping the poor woman on life support is that she's still "in the condition to have babies." But what if she weren't? What if she were infertile? What if she'd already had a hysterectomy? What if she was post-menopausal? Would that suddenly change the situation? Is her life only meaningful if she can, somehow, be impregnated (without her permission or even her awareness, I should point out) to crank out another kid or three?

The more you look at this, the less tasteful it gets.

IF THERE IS A GOD, our Little Suzie Wingnut will address this, and that should give us pure, pants-crapping entertainment for days.

UPDATE. Mercifully, it's over.

I wonder how intelligent women in Italy feel knowing their PM regards them as little more than fetus/baby receptacles.

Someone should leave orders in their will that when they die they want their body to be kept artificially alive forever. That will cure this nonsense pretty quick especially if the state is responsible for picking up the tab.

This old Granny (she 82 and blogs, how cool is that?) seriously kicks Ann Coulter's bony butt.

I just sent that story link to JJ.

My cookies threatened to toss me at the thought of someone climbing into bed with her and committing necrophilic rape to impregnate her (with the consent of the pope and the rest of those drooling old perverts in Vatican). Somebody else can imagine the resulting kid's reaction to find out where he came from. I have to go bleach my brain and pray for Alzheimer's.

Berluconi is really a fascist, in the very literal and historical sense of that word.

We should not be surprised by his action in this. I am only surprised the Black Shirts haven't surrounded the hospital yet.

LuLu--I found Berlusconi's speech. Would you be kind enough to check the translation at my place?

Chimera- Spot on. The notion that a woman who cannnot consent to being impregnated is in any sense "in the condition to have babies" not only tellingly illustrates the religious-conservative tendency to see women as baby-making-machines, but also says much about their bronze-age outlook on women's reproductive rights. Sickening.

Oh, that's ridiculous. But I'm sure they wouldn't object to artificial insemination. I can picture Suzie All-Caps rushing in with a speculum in one hand and a turkey-baster filled with Flanders juice in the other. The end result would be a fitting monument to her cult of "sanctity of life."

We're going to need camps, people...lots of them.

Oh...oh gawd!...my eyes....no, stop, get that out of my head....

Don't blame me. Blame Margaret Atwood. The "sacred fucking" passage in The Handmaid's Tale was disturbing...and disturbingly prescient.

Anarchore:

I'm not certain what led you to believe that off-topic conspiracy-theory trolling was a good method of winning hearts or minds, but you might want to spend some time considering the cost-benefit aspects of that tack before repeating it in the future.

If your intent, however, was to become an e-martyr in some bizarre comments-section-well-poisoning effort, then allow me to be the first to point and laugh.
