For those who are too stupid to remember history, we salute you.

Hmmmmm ... this sounds vaguely familiar:

Harper dares opposition to stall tax-cutting budget

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is daring the opposition to attempt to stall or amend his minority Conservative budget and incur the wrath of a public hungry for tax cuts.

Think, think, think ... oh, right:

'Bring 'Em On' Fetches Trouble

Three words directed by President Bush to fighters attacking Americans in Iraq have triggered attacks of a different kind — from those critical of the president's approach to foreign affairs. ..

"There are some who feel like that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is bring them on," Mr. Bush said.

And we all remember how well that turned out, don't we?

Newflash for Harper - we're after a government that is Open, Honest _AND_ Accountable.

Which, so far, he's been none of.

Just like the Repbulicans' $100 voucher to help with high gas prices, they're pandering to the voters and trying to buy their approval. As cynical as most people are about the $100 credit, I don't think anybody will be refusing it. Unfortunately, money talks.

It is also an empty challenge, as the Senate in Canada is not able to vote down budgets, even ones they disagree with. I dealt with this in some detail in my latest blogpost at Saundrie. This is exactly like when he did the "cut and run" bit in Afghanistan, he was addressing an opposition which in reality did not exist, except this time he is playing Canadians for stupid about how their government actually works.
