There's news and then there's, well, news.

(All emphasis added...)

Story the first:

Palestinians continued to fire rockets at Israel on the 16th day of Operation Cast Lead, even during a three-hour humanitarian cease-fire. Throughout the day Sunday, Gaza terrorists had fired at least 14 rockets at southern Israel.

In the latest attack, a rocket struck an Ashdod kindergarten, causing no casualties as the building was empty at the time. Significant damage was caused to the structure, and three people were being treated for shock.

Story the second:

The Israeli military may have committed war crimes in Gaza, the UN's most senior human rights official said tonight, as Israeli troops pressed on with their increasingly deadly offensive in defiance of a UN security council resolution demanding a ceasefire.

Navi Pillay, the UN high commissioner for human rights, singled out the killing this week of up to 30 Palestinians in Zeitoun, south-east of Gaza City, when Israel shelled a house where its troops had told about 110 civilians to take shelter.

Now, which of these two stories do you think Blogging Tory "Gay and Shrieky" Fred got his thong in a knot over? Guess. Go on, guess. Really, you'll never guess.

Col. Patrick Lang, USA, ret., has an interesting set of observations about the Israeli Defense Force, including the observation that the IDF initially was organized by Russian and Polish Zionists, who followed the Russian template. That means no career non-commissioned officers and, as a result, poor discipline in the ranks. The whole post is worth reading. http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2009/01/the-idf-ground.html

Our unbiased public broadcaster made sure to give equal weight to the resumed rocket attacks and the IDF/IOF entering into high density residential areas with tanks and troops. How very balanced.

The CBC has been just as bad as the others. No mention of the economic embargo Israel has had on Gaza for the past 3 months and what that had done to the civilian population there.

Who is this bullshit for, anyway? Israel will do what it's doing regardless of whether we approve or not but pretending what it's doing is just fine is pretty sick.
