Geeking out open thread.
Blogging will be light for the next couple of days as we'll be geeking out in a big way, but feel free to explain how the 30+ people killed at Virginia Tech is the fault of liberals/gays/foreigners/secular humanists/gun control advocates.
Especially that last group.

I was going to satirize your point by arguing that if only every student brought a handgun to school every day, they could have taken the guy down before he killed more than five or six of them.
But when satire is more reasonable than the sincere beliefs of the people you are making fun of, it isn't funny any more.
Well, this one's easy. Apparently the guy was a resident alien from South Korea. It's all the fault of those nasty foreigners. Nothing to do with America. Or its obsession with guns. Nope. Nothing.
9/11 changed everything.
Works for W, why not me?
Like I said, "9/11 changed everything."
CNN has just disclosed that W is going to VaTech "to bring this country together."
Isn't America wonderful?
The only time I ever went to Virginia was for a conference at Virginia Tech. Everyone seemed very...badly dressed...so, I'm blaming this on the nerds themselves.
I'm not laughing about this, but I have to say that I'm having hard time ginning up much outrage or shock over it all.
"Yes, Mr. President, going to Virginia Tech would be the thing to do. Not going would suggest to people that you don't care enough to be bothered. We feel that not going would be a serious error, or at the very least a missed opportunity."
"Okay, right..... so I should go?"
"Yes, Mr. President, we thing so."
Ok, so after a day of reading wingnut reaction to this, CC was completely correct. It was the fault of "liberals/gays/foreigners/secular humanists/gun control advocates."
...also, someone at the NRO blames English majors.
We're going to need much bigger re-education camps.
English majors are obviously TEH EVILZ.

I must assume you think it was the fault of the poorly dressed...or the poorly dressed are easier targets (all that gaudy clashing and what not)...or the fact they were poorly dressed indicates they lacked the fashion sense required to avoid a crazed killer...or as mother used to say..."Wear clean shorts and a spiffy paisly ascot in case you're shot by a maniac"...or are you suggesting this all could have been averted by a timely episode of Queer Eye for the Phsyco Guy?

Seems to me that elsewhere in the American empire, if a young man needs to let off steam and shoot innocents, he can join a death squad.
Hey Thwap, ever hear of the Canadian Forces?
Actually, one of the functions of a standing army, at least in Western societies, is to afford a haven for the young and violent, and not-so-young and violent, while attempting to control or channel the violence in less destructive, or perhaps even constructive ways.
i was talking about killing your fellow countrymen, ... when they're unarmed and helpless. Not foreigners who are unarmed and helpless.
I'm waiting for Jack Thompson (Google him, if need be) to blame this bullshit on violent video games.
Trust me, it'll happen. =/
