The world's oceans will be virtually barren of species for human consumption by 2050 if current trends in habitat destruction and overfishing persist, researchers warned Thursday.
In an analysis of scientific data going back to the 1950s and historical records over a thousand-year time frame, a group of international scientists found that marine biodiversity has seen a profound decline.
No problem, though ... Canada's wingnuts to the rescue:
Canada won't support bottom trawling moratorium
Canada will not support a halt of bottom trawling in international waters despite calls from a group of countries, including the U.S., that are pushing for a moratorium.
And the best part?
Along with the United States, the following nations support the moratorium in international waters: Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Norway and Brazil.
U.S. President George Bush called upon the international community to end "destructive fishing practices, such as unregulated bottom trawling on the high seas."
The Conservative Party of Canada: Making even George W. Bush look like a careful and responsible steward of the environment.
