Blogging Tory "Hunter" gives her kids yet another reason to insist they were adopted as war orphans:
Global warming is a huge lefty scam to take money from the poor and give it to the rich, like Al Gore.
Which clearly explains the overwhelming lower to middle class support to tackle global warming, and the similarly overwhelming upper class support to ignore it entirely.
Wait ... something about that doesn't make sense ...

Carbon credit trading schemes WILL benefit the already rich. And without India and China on board, nothing we do in terms of meeting greenhouse gas emissions will be enough to address the problem.
I suppose then we should sit and twiddle our thumbs rather than lead by example...Yes I like that idea better.
Exactly. Hard to convince India and China to do anything when we're sitting it out.
Besides, sooey, the claim was that credit trading will harm the poor -- not that it'll benefit the rich. The rich tend to win no matter what, so it's no objection to carbon pricing that the rich will find a way to make that work for themselves.
I object to it. The same rich people who have, in large part, caused the problem, will benefit from the solution (the solution they came up with, by the way). And a lot of these people are doing business in India and China. People are tired of these windbags telling everybody else how to live while they make out like bandits and continue to private jet it around the world.
So support a carbon tax, like we implemented here in BC!
You can make it "revenue neutral", as we do here, in which case the only people it will leave with less money are the conspicuous consumers, like the jet-set crowd, those with colossal, energy-wasteful homes, and so forth - or you can push the money into things like public transit development, or wind and solar development.
Either way, better than cap-and-trade, and no more of this "Oh, the rich will get richer!"
Hunter's contention is an interesting changeup on the more typical right-whinge attacke on global warming as a socialist ruse. Socialists, after all, like to take money from the rich and give to the poor, not the other way around. She contradicts herself in that one short sentence.
I can see how Bugs always outsmarts Hunter.
Lotsa shit doesn't make sense. Like why so many farmers vote Conservative. Or why Hunter hasn't forgotten to breathe yet.
