Alternate interpretation: "More than half of all Canadians are so mind-numbingly horrified at how badly the Conservatives have boned the economy up the ass that they can only believe that things will get better next year because they can't imagine how things could possibly get worse."

Yeah, that reads a lot better, doesn't it?
