Douche vs Douche

True to form, the Stephen Harper Party, home of the lowest common denominator, has gone for the garbage. The new attack ad campaign is under way, it portrays Ignatieff as an arrogant, expatriate intellectual and ego stroking narcissist. While those charges are true enough by my reckoning, I'm just not sure how the Cons figure that they look better by pointing them out. Dion they could make look the fool, they could mock his accent, his posture and appearance. But Ignatieff is more or less one of their own, a blustering, self impressed douche bag who will do anything it takes to gain power. I kind of feel sorry for the poor C.R.A.P. operatives that had to comb through the tens of thousands of pages of Ignatieff's copious self expression. Sure, there's a mother lode of material to exploit but it also opens the door for the similar exploitation of Beefy Steve's anti-Canadian diatribes and much as I don't like Ignatieff, he's a damn sight more artful in his prattling than Stevie-boy has ever been. From my vantage point we're about to witness a douche fight of epic proportions. I don't want either of the combatants to win but I sure am hoping for injuries.

The Cons aren't exactly old dogs, so maybe you can't teach stupid dogs new tricks either.

Have you ever heard of a paragraph, PSA?

I am stung! The refutations, barbs and rejoinders have me undone. You have some sort of point Ti? I'm sure I would profit by a lesson from the master. Hold forth oh sniffy one, educate.

Jesus, can you two just have some angry, make-up sex and get this over with?

I agree with your take on these 2 guys.
I object to the term"douche bag". A slur on our female population.

Any party that accepts and even promotes smarmy prigs like Pierre Poilievre should not be complaining that the leader of the other party is a "ego stroking narcissist".

Irony is dead.

I only heard a bit on the radio, but it seems they are claiming Iggy will leave the country if he can't be PM. I suppose they want to imply he'll stamp his feet and moan it's not fair.

Seems to me, this shows he is more employable outside of the wingnut welfare circuit than Steve. Public office is supposed to be something you aspire to after you have done something in the real world, be it build a business, gain a professorship, succeed in international diplomacy or excel in a profession.

The fact that someone could readily find real employment in the real world should add to their qualifications to be PM, not detract from them. So the question is, given their claims of what Iggy could do should he not become PM, what could Steve when he leaves office?

Ive still got a running bet that Steve moves to the US when he gets booted out finally. Some half-assed "think tank" for a university known for its alcohol consumption hopefully.

I'd like to point out that use of the word "Douche" is not, despite what pearl-clutching feminists would like you to think, an insult which is degrading to women.

A douche can be defined thusly:

Mostly useless, potentially harmful and irritating to women.

Therefore, it is more than apt to call your ex-boyfriend, that guy who keeps hitting on you at the office or Stephen Harper "A Douche and the bag it came in"...

(If you have bought into the hysteria that your lady-parts are disgusting and can only be rendered safe by douching, you have larger issues that you may want to address with both a REAL gynecologist and a practicing psychologist.)

So, Dharma, either way its derogatory for women. Like... cunt and motherfucker.
I am sure Mr. Cynic could use a more appropriate term.
Any suggestions?

Dharma Satya said...

Actually, as a woman, I don't see those words as being any more inappropriate than when I use the word "dick" to describe someone who's being... well... a dick.

Therefore: I have no suggestion, as I think CC used the right word here.

Perhaps you might want to lay off the passive-aggressive bullshit and suggest one yourself, smarty-pants? No? Do you want to contribute instead of just clutch your pearls and censor other people's speech so it's less scary for you? No?

Good. Glad that's sorted.

Dear Oemissions:

You do realize that I am not the author of this post, right? Right?

We are indeed on the cusp of an emerging “douche-fest” which might explain why the Conservatives latest attack ad falls so flat. Does anyone in their right mind actually think that HM PM Stephen Harper (as “dr. roy” dutifully likes to refer to him) is just “a regular guy” that presumably trundles down to the local Tim’s drive-thru for a coffee and a doughnut in the morning? Of course not. And by the same token, should we imagine that Ignatieff is nothing but an elitist dilettante, ex-patriot… a snooty, toffee-nosed panderer shamelessly grasping to make his place in the history books… Oh wait, that part seems to be true. Well never mind.

But Harper is fat. And evil! But Ignatieff isn’t one of those things. Advantage Liberals…

I have no problem with the use of the word "douche" as in the feminine hygiene product because it describes these two leaders to a tee. As a product, a douche is useless, highly insulting to our intelligence, based on the bogus fear they create and potentially damaging. Same applies to Harper and Ignatieff.

Now tampons, that's a completely different story - useful, intelligent, liberating and effective. I would welcome a politician who served me as well as a tampon.

Most politicians give "prophylactic" a bad name.

I'm one of those feminists who loves the word "douche". I use it as 'tool of the patriarchy, and generally irritating to the vag'. :)

If douchebag is not considered acceptable, I'd like to suggest a truly Canadian version... showersac.
