The difference between left and right.

So here's how it works. When an unknown, inconsequential "leftie" that no one has ever heard of makes appalling comments regarding threats to one's physical safety and well-being on another's blog, the proper response is, of course, to condemn her savagely and tar the entire left-wing blogosphere by association.

On the other hand, when a well-known, world-famous and revered right-wing author and pundit makes a career out of publicly promoting the mistreatment, if not outright murder, of the entire liberal community, the proper response is, of course, to promote her book on your web site.

I'm sure some of you saw that coming a mile away.

I waffled but, in the end, I decided to delete the previous comment since it really didn't have anything to do with the post.

Too bad!
It was a great joke, and it showed the attitude of the rightwing toward an icon of the left (use 'Clinton' as an excuse for anything).

Forgive me, but I'm becoming most disturbed by the delineation of the population into pigeon holes. To my mind, most Canadians, with the exception of Steven Harper/bush wannabe, are neither right or left. We all have certain beliefs, and it distresses me to see that we are following the American example and becoming a divided nation. Please, tell me that this is not the case. I'm a financial conservative, but a social liberal. I believe that everyone in society has a duty to protect everyone else, and ensure that our collective children, whether hale and hearty, or disadvantaged, need help in reaching their full potential. I have never voted NDP, because I was there at the beginning and saw how power can corrupt, at the extreme expense of the taxpaying voter, but I cannot in good conscience vote CPC (although I did vote for the Progressive Conservatives- ONCE)I will not lend my vote to radical fundamentalist ideology (read CPC or CPoC, whatever they want to illegitimately call themselves), but I don't agree with what the Liberals did during the Cretin years (spelling deliberate). I'm upset because there are thousands of me out there who don't like what's going on, don't like the Americifation of Canada, and don't like Reform. The only problem? Like the Democrats, the Liberals don't have a winning combination, and they don't seem to care. They are so out of touch that they are - out of touch - and Harperbush is spreading goodies to Quebec in order to ensure a majority. Where are the true PCs and the true Liberals? HELP! Something had better happen before we follow the path of a Nation Divided. Please, reassure me.

Okay, that's a start. Tommy Douglas was corrupt? Yes, it was CCF but please explain. The other parties have all displayed corruption from power - why did you vote for them?

Theo, I should have been more explicit. I was not there with Tommy Douglas, who is probably as honest as his rep, but I was there when the NDP were running union drives in the public sector to encourage membership, and I was there when the waffle group was agitating to push the party in a particular direction. I worked in an area that shall remain nameless, and watched as the big boys, all of whom where well to do white men took advantage of their position. Beyond that, I'm not willing to specify, but the leopard doesn't change it's spots, and a lot of the leopards are still in positions of influence. You will probably write my comments off because I will not name names, nor will I name incidents, and that is your choice. Mine is to not, ever, vote NDP. I'm sure Tommy Douglas had a grand vision, but he's been dead for awhile, and the vision has been affected by political mores over which he had no control - being dead and all. Oh, by the way, I have stories about current leadership, but as mentioned, I will not disclose - my opinions are mine, to be expressed much as you have expressed yours. I respect your opinion, and I do hope you will respect mine.
PS, I worked in a front line Service Industry for 35 years.

Oh.. so now I get the rules. Making false allegations of impropriety against somebody whom you disagree with, involving their children -- and Urging a couple thousand people to call members of your family, including your husband and to harrass them and indirectly you -- which is something Kate McMillan has done to me - is peachy-keen... and none of the Blogging Tories object in the slightest, because they don't believe in "Guilt by Association" -- but if a left-wing fruitcake says something obnoxious... involving the family of a right-wing blowhard... Oh My God... It's totally unfair man!

Good.. just so we have the ground rules covered!

Well - I guess these poor SOBs have to come up with something to whinge about -- the Cheque-Swapping thing is not looking good for it - so maybe they need to starve the story of oxygen by focusing on this sort of non-story.

I haven't (ever) read Anne (sp?) so I can't comment on her writing, but I HAVE watched the trainwreck driven by the ex-teacher at U of Arizona for the past few days.

Cerebrus, are you implying that what she did is okay because of what Anne Coulter might have to say? As a parent, I can say that a general "all rightwingers must die a horrible death" is much different than saying "If your child is JonBenet(ed) I will feel no remorse." It's a visceral thing that has (likely) no logical explanation but I would definitely feel threatened (although not as threatened as "I know your child attends X school etc.). Hate me for my beliefs, but leave my kid out of it, thanks.

Or are you just calling BS on general hypocrisy, which I would probably argue if I'd read the book along the lines of general vs. specific (I'm guessing and could be dead wrong so stand to be corrected).

And btw, before you tar the right, you may want to check out the left side of the argument. There is enough sh*t flying to cover everyone quite nicely IMHO.

Don't forget the rush of people to see the latest Michael Moore movie. The left has the same share of lunatics the right does....

Hey really great post. I seem to have gotten in trouble regarding this very advert.

I better watch out, or they might publish my phone number, address and all that so that people can personally tell me how Angelic Ann Coulter really is...
