Speaking to Americans. Slowly.
Via Alison, we have Chris Hedges' "Letter from Canada." So all you adoring, wistful, progressive Yanks can stop gazing so longingly in our direction for just a bit -- we've got our own whackjobs to deal with for the time being.
We'll let you know when it's all straightened out.

When you think about the fact that there are more religious nutcases in the US than the entire population of Canada and that the American organisations are feeding their Canadian branch plants with their toxic propaganda (and, no doubt, huge wads of cash) you can only see this as the stealth invasion of Canada by a foreign force hostile to our way of life. In those terms, this interference in our politics should be viewed with outright hostility, and not simply a matter of freedom of religion and political activism motivated by religious values.
I don't think the fundamentalists in Canada would be able to compete very effectively with our own secular institutions if they didn't have the support of their sugar-daddies to the South.
You don't get it, do you? Now that America has gone LIBERAL, Canada is the 100% American's Great White Hope.
Good luck & good riddance.
Yeah, but the RedStaters really hate the cold, so I don't think they'll be moving up here. I think they're planning a retreat to Paraguay. Hmmm...when did that happen last?
Bushes Sr and Jr and the Rev. Moon have already bought adjoining spidey holes in Paraguay
