Once that profoundly stupid man opened his mouth it would all be downhill from there.
Of course, Canada's shameless media would continue to fellate him in the hopes that his appeal would expand, but, again, stephen harper is a profoundly stupid man with a terrible track record.
I wouldn't say he's "stupid". He's created the best political machine within the Conservative party that I've seen in my lifetime.
This is not about Harper running again. It's about Harper playing Trump-in-Exile, flexing the Kingmaker muscle so that when Trudeau wins his third election and the Conservatives invite O'Toole to a lunch in the Senate on the Ides of March 2022, Harper's beloved Pierre Polievre can bet touted as the party's saviour. (Which is great, because the smarmy little creep is too utterly unlikable to win them more than a set or two out west.)
I think ‘best political machine’ is a matter of opinion. It’s a machine that only knows how to attack and belittle its opponents, fails horribly when it comes to communicating policy, and seems to be terminally useless without one man at the helm - Harper.
I grant that they have mastered the targeted fundraising routine but beyond that, they have proven to be only marginally more competent than the Green Party in the absence of their first electorally successful leader.
Harper isn’t stupid - he’s malicious. The sooner he exits Canada’s political scene for good, the better. We need to shed his toxicity.
