Um ... what did I say about "fine print?"

Ruh roh ...

I believe I recently warned people about the danger of fine print, did I not? Ironically, here's Rebel News crowing over their civic-minded altruism from back in March:

And here's Rebel, slapping themselves on the back over their "victory":

and here's Rebel, reminding Foley of the fine print:

So, yeah, that's how it works, kids. In case you were wondering.

HMMMMMMM ... reading this over a second time, something seems off as it would appear that Rebel News actually did renege on their promise to "fight the fines." Based on my reading of the above (and I'm willing to be corrected), it appears that Foley was hit with both a criminal charge, and two provincial offenses. It seems that, while Rebel News dealt with the criminal charge, it simply walked away from the two provincial offenses, even though it seems clear that there would still need to be legal representation for those.

So it seems fair to ask, why did Rebel News represent Foley for only some of her charges, yet hang her out to dry on the rest of them? If that is indeed what happened, then it seems that Foley has a right to be pissed.

CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER ... from back in December of 2020, here's Der Rebel, insisting that it would be helping Foley fight her "fines" (that's "fines", plural):

One is starting to understand her irritation.

HOLY FREAKING GOD, IT GETS WORSE! As much as I loathe linking to the journalistic cesspool that is Rebel News, you need to see this. Here, one finds an 11-minute video with Rebel's Drea Humphrey practically orgasming over how wonderful she and Rebel are, and the first part of the video covers how Rebel's lawyer got the criminal charge dismissed. So far, so good.

But ... fast forward to 9:14, where Humphrey clearly encourages viewers to continue donating to help Foley fight the remaining charges. There is absolutely no question that Humphrey is soliciting further donations with the promise that Rebel is going to continue representing Foley, insisting at around 9:38, "We're going to be fighting those fines for you." And we know how that ended, don't we?

None of this should surprise anyone.

JESUS CHRIST, CRAZIER AND CRAZIER ... commenter drops me a link to some actual, legitimate coverage of this fiasco, and here's the best part:

In other words, Rebel News is apparently crowing over their success in having had criminal charges against Foley dismissed ... when criminal charges were never even filed. Can this get any more deranged? Let's watch.

IT GETS CRAZIER SO CHECK BACK TOMORROW ...

BONUS TRACK: The "victim" in this case, one Valerie Ann Foley, is apparently an unabashedly deranged, psychologically unhinged lunatic. How could anyone be surprised?

"Unabashedly": Look it up.

I think the case is even more tangled than that.

Following the posting of the Rebel video, there was a huge social media outcry; not in sympathy of this shrieking nutbar, but in support of the cop who spoke to her calmly, refused to get provoked, and refrained from physical contact until she began to fight him. The Vancouver Transit police asked that criminal charges be laid, but none were. So the case Ezra brags about having "won" was no case at all. Charges weren't "dropped" - they were never laid.
And then, as noted, the Rebel and their pet ambulance chaser bailed on the only actual charges.
It's hard to work up sympathy for the accused, though. Like so many of the Rebel's self-proclaimed "victims", she seems to be a little bit nuts, with a habit of instigating and then posting obscene rants. https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/vancouver-news/video-richmond-anti-masker-ordered-to-pay-her-fines-3771917

This is excellent sleuthing, but it ends up making me very angry that Ezra has gotten away with this kind of fraud for years.
