There is a point related to JCCF's John Carpay's recent appalling lack of ethics, principles and anything remotely resembling common sense, and I haven't seen anyone address it specifically, so indulge me if you will.
Before he even gets to the end of the first sentence in his utterly fake apology, Carpay insists that his possibly criminal activity is to (and I quote) "hold government officials accountable." OK, let's take Carpay at his word and see where that gets us.
Hold them accountable how? Specifically, how? Remember, Carpay hired a gumshoe to trail (among other people) Manitoba chief justice Glenn Joyal, in the hopes of catching him violating provincial pandemic regulations. And ignoring the propriety of that kind of stupidity, let's say that said gumshoe caught Joyal doing exactly that. And took a picture. And handed that picture to Carpay.
Then what?
As in, with said picture in hand, what exactly did Carpay plan to do with it? What would have been his next step in holding Joyal "accountable?" And here's where it gets amusing.
The only way I can see to have used this photo against Joyal would have been to make it public. Is there any other possibility one can think of for the use of such a picture? How could one theoretically hold someone accountable in such a situation short of releasing such a pic to the public? Is there another possibility? (Other than straight-up blackmail?) But here's Carpay's problem.
Given such a picture, I find it hard to believe Carpay would unleash it on the public and take credit for it. It's hard to fathom that Carpay would do something as professionally suicidal as to release that sort of incriminating picture on JCCF's web site, or anywhere else where he signs his name to it. So what other possibility is there?
Well, it does occur that the safest thing to do with such a photo would be to quietly pass it over to -- oh, I don't know -- some sort of right-wing social media platform, or conservative media outlet, who would be happy to give it the widest possible coverage while concealing its origin. Can you think of any examples of just that sort of platform?
Think hard ... it might come to you.
Seriously, if Carpay had such a picture, and wanted to (as he describes it) hold someone accountable, and he wanted to protect his sorry ass so that the only safe strategy was to hand that pic over to someone who would be absolutely deeeee-lighted to post it far and wide while hiding where it came from, can anyone imagine a more appropriate media platform than Rebel News, who one can only imagine absolutely gleefully publishing such a photo under the shrieking caption, "HYPOCRISY! Anonymous tipster captures Manitoba chief justice violating his own provinces's pandemic regulations even as he adjudicates a case on that very issue!!"
I am of course, speculating wildly and irresponsibly, and am willing to have anyone point out the flaws in my reasoning. Because that's just the kind of guy I am.
