Shorter Blogging Tory Gerry Nicholls: "It's OK if you're Stephen Harper."
Shorter commenters: "We're abysmally stupid, too."
AFTERSNERK: Commenter "treb" seems quite taken with his (her?) powers of research, pompously pronouncing:
I guess some people just wont read the bill..Full text available to everyone Gerry.First paragraph below.
Date of General Election
Date des élections générales
Powers of Governor General preserved
56.1 (1) Nothing in this section affects the powers of the Governor General, including the power to dissolve Parliament at the Governor General’s discretion.
There you have it Gerry, first paragraph of the act,so what your problem with the truth??
And since "treb" is so enamoured of the actual text, one is tempted to ask "treb" whether, since that text includes the word "discretion," whether the G-G has the "discretion," when PM LargeSteve LoadPants comes a-calling for an election, to simply say "no." After all, that's kind of what the word "discretion" means. But I'm guessing that's where "treb" suddenly doesn't want to talk about it anymore.
Oh, and "treb"? Note how the very text you quoted leaves the "power" to dissolve Parliament in the hands of the G-G. Not the PM. The G-G. Or did you miss that bit?

I can imagine the yowling cacaphony that would ensue from the G-G giving the thumbs down to Harper's request.
It would be sweet.
If I'm not mistaken, she has another option, and that is to bypass an election and ask another party to form the government instead.
The GG can have the PM beheaded.
It's true. You can look it up.
