... but then when you lift up the barrel ...

It's hard to believe that anyone can make you long for the days of intellectual discourse involving Adam Daifallah, but TVO's "The Agenda with Steve Paikin" is working on it:

Deranged Catholic Kathy Shaidle, your local expert on secular pursuits. What ... Harold Albrecht wasn't available?

JUST THINKING OUT LOUD: If one felt strongly enough about this, one might actually e-mail Steve Paikin and ask him whether he has any standards for his guests. Such as, whether it bothers him in the slightest to have invited Kathy Shaidle, who recently wrote of Barack Obama:

Black, stupid or both: that's your only excuse for getting excited about Barack Obama... I'll be repeating this a lot during the next few years, so get used to it: there is nothing "compelling" about a black man impregnating a white woman. In more than one Toronto neighbourhood, that's what they call "Saturday night."

Perhaps Steve should consider an upcoming episode on racial tolerance and multiculturalism. I'll bet Kate McMillan's available.

Yup. That's it. No more The Agenda for me. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, but its guests are simply not worth listening to. If Steve Paikin wants to slop hogs, he can do it in private sector broadcasting.

I'd complain about taxes going to support this, but it's obvious with a roster of z-grade nobodies, they're doing it on the cheap.

I will have to watch this last time to catch the mouse roaring though. Maybe she'll have a melt-down, right there on the teevee. As a good Catholic, I'm praying for that.

Maybe, if we are really lucky, we'll get to see someone speak in tongues.

It'd likely be more compelling than the usual tripe that comes from the mouths of Shaidle and MacMillan.

"If one felt strongly enough about this..."

Translation: If one was enough of a loser.

I'm assuming that CC has already fired off an email to Paikin?

I listen to the Agenda on podcast a couple of times a week and generally really like the program - it is one of the only concentrated hits of Canadian - especially Ontario - news I get over here in Sushi-land aside from the CBC. Having said that, I am absolutely shocked and appalled that they would have Shaidle on the show. Surely, if they needed a god-botherer, they could have found one who foamed at the mouth a little less. The only reason I can come up with is that someone at TVO has been reading her blog and they know she'll throw a full-tilt freakout on the air and discredit her side of the debate.

looking at the rest of the panel, is it too much to hope for that Kinsella gets off the leash and rips Kathy a new one?

I doubt that. Kinsella's not part of the solution; he's part of the problem. None of these people are experts in what they are being asked to address...Kinsella is a lawyer and Shaidle is...well, from what I can tell, a reformed slut, dry-drunk and born-again Catholic (which is incompatible with Catholicism). Besides, I really do think she's psychotic and it's vulgar to parade people like on the teevee.

That being said, I will watch it.
