Once upon a time, when I was beating up on my intellectual and ethical inferiors, I let my snark get the better of me and suggested, in a fit of pique, that "a depressing number of right-wing wankers need to be, not only corrected publicly, but hauled out to the sidewalk and beaten on the kidneys until they piss blood. Because, quite simply, they deserve it."
Apparently, given the obscurity of the above Hunter S. Thompson reference, at least one complete wanker took it seriously and waxed ever so sanctimonious about it:
I am always happy to see left wingers expose themselves for the intolerant idiots that they are. In their world, others are entitled to any opinion as long as it doesn't disagree with them, at which point they deserve to be "hauled out to the sidewalk and beaten on the kidneys until they piss blood".
I will give the right wing their proper credit on this point -- while those of us on the left will occasionally huff and puff and make threatening noises to blow off steam every so often, those on the right don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk:
Douglas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the reported beating of a Kansas University professor who gained recent notoriety for his Internet tirades against Christian fundamentalists.
Kansas University religious studies professor Paul Mirecki reported he was beaten by two men about 6:40 a.m. today on a roadside in rural Douglas County. In a series of interviews late this afternoon, Mirecki said the men who beat him were making references to the controversy that has propelled him into the headlines in recent weeks.
I'm guessing we won't be reading any expressions of outrage over at Mr. Strong's site any time soon over that little smackdown, will we?
