Just another reason to hate Wal-Mart.

Like you really needed another one:

Wal-Mart refuses to stock the "morning-after" pill – a back-up birth control option that prevents unintended pregnancy if taken soon after sex. But the company has told the media that it is giving its policy “a lot of thought.”

This is obviously a U.S.-oriented news tidbit. What's the story up here?

UPDATE: I was just about to ask whether there are any provincial or federal laws that dictate what licensed pharmacies are required to carry, or whether they have total discretion to be as picky as they like. Then I noticed this sidebar at that same link:

Update: the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy announced in a unanimous opinion that Wal-Mart is required to stock the "morning-after" pill at its pharmacies in Massachusetts!

Which would seem to make sense. If a pharmacy requires a license to operate, one would naturally assume that part of that licensing process is that the pharmacy agrees to abide by certain rules, one of those rules being that they don't have the option to refuse to stock certain prescriptions based solely on their delicate religious wingnut sensibilities.

So, I ask again -- does anyone know the law up here?

Apparently there is legislation. Pharmacies are required to carry or have access to certain items in order to be called a pharmacy.

Pharmacists are allowed to refuse to dispense certain products on moral or religious grounds BUT, they must not communicate that to the patient and they are required to disclose that belief prior to accepting employment.

Here's BC's information which, if I read it correctly, is concurrent with most other provinces in a Memorandum of Acceptance.

And now... the information.

(Think I need another cup of coffee.)

Jeez! That didn't work either.

Try this here.

Yeah! Walmart should be sued and forced to carry pornography and uncensored CDs, too! Screw free capitalism! All businesses should be run by the government and forced to sell what the government tells them to sell!

[For those who can't tell (i.e. most of you reading this), I'm being sarcastic.)

No, Jason, you're just being an asshole. That's something you actually have some talent at.

Funny, Jason, I seem to recall you complaining that Chapters had decided not to carry Guns and Ammo any longer; isn't that the very free market capitalist decisions your sarcasm suggests you support?
