It's all a matter of perspective.

Total cost of the Iraq war: $241 billion and counting, with the White House about to ask Congress for another $120 billion.

Total FEMA has paid out for hotel and motel rooms for Hurricane Katrina victims before finally ending the program and kicking those people out: $542 million. The fraction of the current total cost of the Iraq war: 1/5 of one per cent.

Even Jinx McHue should be able to do the math here.

Ah, they never shoulda been there in the first place.

Wait, I meant the New Orleans people! Not... uh... actually it works rather well either way, doesn't it?

Iraq war costs to reach at least $1 trillion, when all costs are considered.

What a waste.

At least that $1 trillion isn't being spent on poor people, though.

Hmm... Money going to something worthwhile vs. money going to a bunch of freeloaders who should've been able to find jobs and their own housing since Katrina. Yeah. Hard decision there.

Wow, Jason. You must be one of those 'Christians' who think God sent the hurricane to smite New Orleans.

WWJD, Jason? Would he call the victims freeloaders and dump them on the street? Some savior you have there.

Do you think the region just had a few million jobs and apartments waiting to be filled? You expect local economies to adjust to a massive influx of population in six months without a serious government program?

Makes that $7B oil and gas giveaway look like, what?

The scum on the top of an organic, healthy heart jar of Big Time's peanut butter?

The current occupation of Iraq is "worthwhile"? Really? And what, Jinx, is the rationale for continuing to pump money into Iraq?

Regime change? Done. WMDs? Apparently non-existent. In short, all of the original rationales for the invasion of Iraq have now been accomplished. So what's keeping the U.S. there?

Go on, Jinx. Let's hear what the talking points are in your universe today. This should be good.

Hey -- as the bible says, "God helps those who help themselves."

I'd give you the chapter and verse but, uh, I'm having a little trouble finding it in there. I'll keep looking though.

Money going to something worthwhile

Since when is financing Halliburton and various other Republican-connected corporations with huge amounts of unmonitored and unregulated tax dollars considered 'worthwhile'?

Just reading this today. Two corrections:
1- FEMA has not cut off funding to disaster victims.
2- most disaster evacuees are employed in their new cities. I have about 8,000 Red Cross cases open right now. They have no homes to go back to and are on hold to begin rebuilding until either their insurance or FEMA covers thier loss. This process is expected to take 18-24 months, so in the meantime housing expenses and travel back to New Orleans to help in the recovery are being PARTIALLY reimbursed to those who apply. (at present I have only 8000 of the original 25000 cases pending) Those who did not own homes, ie renters, are relocated, paying their own rent and hoping they can move back home in the next few years since apartment reconstructino will lag behind single family housing by an estimated 24-36 months.

Consider that a bucket of cold water thrown on petty ranters. Be informed before you blog.
