Dear airlines: We can all chill out a bit now, can't we?

Finally, a spark of sanity in the increasing stupidity that is the airline industry:

Travellers who race to the airport to catch their flights can relax a little.

A federal tribunal has ruled that Air Canada's decision to cancel two passengers' tickets because they didn't check in one hour before departure was improper.

Well, it's about freaking time that someone came down on the airlines for this idiocy, whose solution to just about everything is to demand that you show up earlier and earlier for your flight. Domestic? One hour. International? Two hours. No, no, make it three. Yeah, three. So they can process you in 10 minutes and let you sit in the boarding area for another two and a half hours.

It's about time someone demanded that Air Canada honour the actual terms of their own tickets:

The CTA [Canadian Transportation Agency] reviewed the terms and conditions of Air Canada's tickets and ruled that as long as passengers are at the boarding gate 25 minutes before the scheduled takeoff, the airline has no right to cancel a reservation.

Thank you, CTA. And bite me, Air Canada.
