Night of the Long Knives.

You know things are just going to get worse if Fox News is gleefully throwing you under the bus.

CAMERON: There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lacked a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency.

We are told by folks that she didn’t know what countries were in NAFTA — the North American Free Trade Agreement. That’d be Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. We’re told that she didn’t understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series — a country just in itself. A whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability.

Considering they appear to share the same breathtaking levels of ignorance and lack of curiosity, it’s no wonder "Hunter" thought Palin was the awesomest, most bestest candidate for Vice-President evah!1!!!1!11111!!!

This is going to get delicious.

CC here: Well, duh.

LuLu again: Nothing says losing gracefully quite like circling the wagons and promptly firing inside. These people can't do anything right.

CC redux: Heh. Indeed. Your move, LuLu.

LuLu 2.0: Take that. I eagerly await your reply, Mr. Bond.

Hmmmmmm ... I win (I'm even more of a winner if I include the link).

My dear LuLu, you failed to emphasize the most important part of that link:

"Today, Fox News’ campaign reporter Carl Cameron unloaded some startling undisclosed reports of Sarah Palin’s incompetence that he had been given off-the-record on the condition they not be released until the conclusion of the campaign."

Given the relentless shrieking about how the media has been in the tank for Obama all this time, there is a certain irony in learning that Fox News knew that Palin was a certifiable retard, but sat on that revalation until it no longer mattered.

That's all right, though ... IOKIYAC. It always is.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Fuck me. The death throes are going to be so entertaining.

Yabbut, she had great vision. She could even see Russia from her house.

P.S. "Revelation." *Sigh*. I hate it when that happens.

So that begs the question, why was she chosen in the first place?

Seems Fox and some of the other outlets that are releasing this stuff are trying to paint McCain as a victim - he had concerns but could not do anything about it.

So McCain didn't really have anything to do with choosing Palin after all? It was the machinations of the Party bigwigs?

Also CC, to be fair to Fox, I believe this was part of an effort by more than one media outlet to get inside information on how campaigns run and did so on the condition that the inside info was not revealed until after the election. Newsweek was also in on it and also reports on stuff from Obama's side as well.

Mike,

From what I have been reading by the good folx at Newsweek, the vetting process and choice for a candidate was a "hail mary pass" - Last ditch effort to do SOMETHING to stop the loss of support hemmoraging going on.

I expect it went a little bit like this...

RNC Hacks -- "Look at how upset women were when Obama won the nomination instead of Hillary - we only have 30% of the voters, so we need to expand our base and swing women to our camp. We need a strong Republican Hillary....that way we can possibly swing some feminist/women votes our way --Now.... who should it be????

Hmmmm.... how many women congressmen and senators and governors are there? Hmmmm... maybe we should just look at each state and see where we can find potential women Veep candidates...:Lets start alphabetically...

Alabama... hmmm - nope.. no congress, senate or governor women there....

Next up...Alaska

HEY. LOOKATTHAT!!!!! The Governor of Alaska is a chick and a republican - PLUS she looks HAWT!!!! Lets see what we can do with that - shall we?

To qualify what Meghan wrote, from a variety of sources I've been reading/listening to, the RNC determined that the qualified right wing women they had available were too sophisticated and not unknown enough.

They didn't stop at Alaska. They just dismissed everyone else first.

I hope Hunter is angry for being *had* like this. I hope someone reminds her of that...*snicker*

Hunter is way too goddamned stupid to ever understand that Sarah Palin is the best thing that could have happened to the Obama campaign.

If McCain would have chosen someone who was even moderately qualified, literate, educated and so on, he could have had a real shot. Instead, he picked Caribou Barbie of the Wasilla Hillbillies, and the rest is history.

Thank you, God, for Sarah Palin.

If Steverino didn't have a cabinet full of Sarah Palin's, this would be funny. Now you know why ministers are not allowed to address the press without prior approval.

Who's the Sarah Palin of Steve's cabinet? Lisa Raitt? Rona? Titsy Guergis?

They needed an infusion of cash... as soon as the Palin pick was announced, Duh Base responded.

Also, coming right after the DNC, the Palin announcement dominated the news. For the sake of one news cycle, the McCain campaign threw away the election.

I thought I'd go nuts while a critical mass of women deliberated whether the criticism of Palin was sexist or classist or lookist; thank God sensible people all settled on the fact that her selection was opportunistic and that's she's just a big fraud.

The problem for the GOP strategists is that the evangelical base was never intended to actually make their opinions known. They were supposed to be good christian folk, who'd donate, vote, then sit down and shut up for the four years in between while the more moderate/intelligent republicans ran things.

Unfortunately, this internet thingy came along and they all started finding each other. That lead to them realizing just how much power they gave the GOP and thus starting to feel like they had a right to demand things from it. So Palin was picked as a means to placate them.

Now the backroom boys are afraid it's worked too well, so they're having their news wing try to shoot her down before she splits the evangelicals off from the GOP completely.

[T]wo fundamental conservative stands she took mattered greatly to me: She vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life

BAhahaha! The second amendment and the sanctity of life, like cinnamon and sugar!

Sarah Palin being picked for position of VP shows that most men only have enough blood to operate one head at a time.

Y'all are forgettin' - for a while there, she had Obama lookin' like quite the male chauvinist for pickin' white ol' male Joe Biden.

This whole thread discloses insensitivity on the part of the regulars to the administrative problems faced by conservative politicians — when you're looking for people who agree with you, you're into adverse selection.
