Just when you think they can't get any more childish ...

[For the record, since a number of readers might get the wrong impression, the correspondent who sent me the e-mail below made it clear (admittedly after the fact) that he had no problem with my publishing his e-mail once any trace of its origin had been removed. So, by all means, find something else to whine about, OK?]

[LATEST UPDATE: Just bite me.]

What follows is, verbatim, a note I received earlier on the private CC HQ red phone from a member of the Blogging Tories and, while he asked me to keep it private, I don't think I'm violating any confidences by reprinting it, stripped of any identifying information (mostly because it's not like it should come as a major surprise to anyone).

Enjoy.

CC,

I'm writing this in confidence so I hope you will keep it on the DL.

I'm sure you're already aware of the attempts, but I thought you should know a bunch of folks have contacted me trying to develop some united effort to expose your identity.

I am not warning you of this because I like you. I'm doing it because you have a right to remain anonymous, even if I personally happen to think you're trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Anyways, tread carefully. And rest assured I'm not assisting these people.

Regards, ...

So, to Blogging Tories co-founder Stephen Taylor, I can only say -- this is your creation. These are the people who are representing what you'd like to think of as the cream of the crop of the conservative Canadian blogosphere; a bunch of petty, vindictive dingbats who, because they can't possibly address the issues and criticisms I raise on a daily basis, think the next best thing is to try to ruin my blogging hobby.

I realize it's getting a bit repetitive but, really, you must be so proud of your co-bloggers: if it's not the screeching pro-life dingbats or the depressing scientific illiterates or the worthless right-wing talking point stenographers or the disgusting racists or the shrieking homophobes, it's the infantile playground bullies.

What a community you've constructed and unleashed on the world, Steve. I hope you and your legacy will be happy together.

BY THE WAY, STEVE, I can't wait to see what happens if the junior detectives in question eventually think they've determined my identity and post it for the world to see, only to have gotten it wrong and ending up making some innocent schmuck's life miserable.

Oh, yes, the hilarity will ensue then, won't it? Especially since I've e-mailed you offline and pointed you at this very post, so it's not like you won't have known about it. I have no idea whether that would make you the subject of any potential legal action but the word "negligence" just leaps to mind, doesn't it?

Have a nice day.

So what you are saying is that there is only one decent BT?

Not at all, CWTF. I'm just saying that there's one who was contacted about trying to expose me who took the high road and did, in my humble opinion, the right and ethical thing.

What's more interesting is that it's someone I've actually taken occasional potshots at, so that makes it even more noteworthy.

Credit where credit is due and all that.

Good for the individual that contacted you, but it sure doesn't say much for the rest of them. Pathetic.

This doesn't come as any surprise. Quite a while ago, I was shocked to see commentary among conservative blogs requesting personal information on targets such as Warren Kinsella, David Susuki, and Belinda Stronach, which quite often extended to requests for information about their families....in fact, Steven Janke himself set about digging up information about Belinda Stronach's brother and implicated a charity he (the brother) was involved with in an attempt at condemnation by association.

Now, it's not like this kind of stuff is new...it's just how under condemned it went by those associated with The Blogging Tories.

Naturally, this kind of thing invites retaliation and on it goes...

The rightwingers are proto-fascists. There's no point in denying that and if sensible conservatives don't start being a little more vocal in condemning this kind of behaviour, they'll reap the whirl-wind.

I hope they peg CC's secret identity to me 'cause I'd love to get my 'lawsuit happy' fatigues on!

Proto-fascists..that's a new one.

Guess I better hurry back to my blog and quickly condemn everything mentioned here, lest I be accused to being an enabler!

Ti-Guy said...

Do you think I was addressing you, ALW? My, what conceit. Although, I can undertand that...you being the "pick o' the litter" and all.

Proto-fascists..that's a new one...

Yeah, I know. I just made it up, all on my own.

...let me know if you are in need of a library card and a reading list, l'il Aaron on the nature of fascism. "The more you know..." after all.

ALW said...

Well ti-guy, I am on the BT blogroll, so I assume I qualify as a target for your epithets. Or did you just prefer to make vague references and generalizations to faceless, nameless targets?

By all means, please keep tossing around 'fascist' as handy shorthand for 'anything that any kind of conservative says' to futher burnish your reputation as someone who attacks first and justifies later.

Yes, I do prefer to do that, since I have neither the time nor the interest in writing a well-sourced dissertation here to back up the argument I'm making. You can take it at face value or not, I really could not care less. It's not escaping me, Aaron, that you are engaging in a rather tiresome distraction here.

...by the way, I didn't know you weren't part of the BT "collective" (*snick*). I didn't see that little blue box on your blog the last time I checked.

By all means, please keep tossing around 'fascist' as handy shorthand for 'anything that any kind of conservative says' to futher (sic) burnish your reputation as someone who attacks first and justifies later.

How generous of you and...thank you, I will. And once again, if you don't like that, I'm sure you'll get over it. Or, if you can't get over it, maybe you can out me and expose to the world the fact that I pee'd my pants on stage during a nativity play when I was in grade 3. That'll show me for being intemperate.

In the sequence of events, how did my attack come before the attempt to out someone for purposes of retaliation and in support of censorship? Or are you just not following this all very carefully?

Oh, okay. So basically, you feel like saying shit, so you're just gonna say shit. Gotcha. Backing up arguments, indeed.

Doesn't it get tiresome waking up each morning just so you can parrot whatever CC writes about while adding zero insights of your own? Maybe you can create a CTRL-Alt-Ditto shortcut to spare your brain the effort. I mean, at least CC is funny. And creates original content. Your entire contribution consists of screaming "me too" and calling an anonymous group of people fascists.

My goodness...I didn't realise my commentary here was causing you such emotional and intellectual discombobulation. I sincerely hope whoever is forcing you to read this realises the torture they're subjecting you to.

So basically, you feel like saying shit, so you're just gonna say shit. Gotcha.

Actually, saying "shit" is talking to you, Aaron. You're as tiresome as all the rest.

For the record...I don't think you're a fascist. I just think you're a poorly-socialised moron.

Have a nice day.

I could say the same with respect to all the stuff you whine about each and every day.

For the record...I don't think you're a fascist. I just think you're a poorly-socialised moron.

Coming from you, that's a compliment.

Oh, sorry...I didn't realise you were stalking me...although, given that that's all the rage among the poorly-socialised misfits who make up the Right these days, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I really should take into account that unseen audience of mine when I express myself. Don't want to run the risk of pissing them off.

You're psychotic, Aaron. Maybe you and neo-con should get together...at least when you're babbling incoherently to yourselves, it'll look like you're talking to each other.

CC said...

All right, guys, knock it off. Not to sound self-centered but this isn't about you, OK?

Boo!

CC, I'm glad you got that email. We do forget that there are people with decent impulses at all points of the spectrum.

You're right, though, that the decent ones who associate with these people have to wake up and notice just what is being perpetrated, and what they're being a party to. The longer they stay quiet because they don't want to attack "their side," the more likely it is they'll find themselves living that poem whose last lines are, "When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out."

Rosshole - someone should really tell him that mullets are out of style...

I love Rosshole's comment policy:

That is the most restrictive comment policy I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure most people have to get up on a gurney, put their legs in the stirrups and submit to a pelvic exam to get a post through on ol' Rosshole's blog.

By the way, I wish he'd learn how to spell "puerile."

I can't believe the guy is still accusing me of committing identity theft even though I revealed my real name online. What a loon.

I don't get it. Just because the rest of us have better things to do with our lives than to obsess about this topic we are somehow guilty???

Whatever...
