The politics of grief.

Now is not the time to start finger pointing and assigning blame related to Hurricane Katrina 'cuz that would be wrong:

In a reflection of what has long been a hallmark of Mr. Rove's tough political style, the administration is also working to shift the blame away from the White House and toward officials of New Orleans and Louisiana who, as it happens, are Democrats.

"The way that emergency operations act under the law is the responsibility and the power, the authority, to order an evacuation rests with state and local officials," Mr. Chertoff said in his television interview. "The federal government comes in and supports those officials."

Let the smear job begin.

Whose responsibility was funding the Army Corps of Engineers' efforts to rebuild the levees last year? Who cut the requested funds by over half?

Whose responsibilty was funding FEMA? Who cut their budget to fund a war of adventure?

Who declared and financed and pursued that war, diverting needed National Guard resources from their first and most important job: seeing to the home needs of the US in times of emergency?

Who was that, Mr. Rove? I'm curious.
