I see a pattern here.


  • 2001: United States suffers unimaginable catastrophe, world rushes to respond.

  • 2002-2005: United States proceeds to treat rest of world like shit.

  • 2005: United States suffers unimaginable catastrophe, world rushes to respond.
Rinse, repeat?

UPDATE: I don't think the word "irony" even comes close to describing this:

The United States has accepted an offer of UN assistance following the Hurricane Katrina disaster which has devastated New Orleans and other communities along the US Gulf coast, a UN spokesman said.

One has to ask -- given the Bush appointment of U.N.-hater John Bolton as U.S. ambassador, does anyone in that administration have enough grace or class left to feel at least a little sheepish about this? Or are they just above this sort of thing at this point?
