Oh, Lord. Just when you think you've scraped the bottom of the barrel, someone comes along and lifts up the barrel, and out from under oozes right-wing pundit Stephen Taylor with this execrable piece of stupidity.
Like numerous other Blogging Tories, Taylor has been clapping his little paws with glee over the alleged strong-arming of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) by Joe Volpe to take down the anti-Volpe parody site youthforvolpe.ca. Problem is, as you can read at the "UPDATE" at that link, Taylor has had to do some furious back-pedaling now that reality has stepped up and bitch-slapped him upside the head.
Let's check out Taylor's feeble and classless attempt at escaping accountability:
UPDATE (supplemtary [sic] info): There's more information to the story. The deletion of the domain name was in full compliance of rules of the CIRA ...
That's right, Stephen, you putz. As has been explained here, what happened was not only legal but required by CIRA, who have an obligation to cancel the registration of ".ca" domains that cannot provide proof of Canadian affiliation. Does everyone understand that? Seriously. If you don't understand that, go back and read again. Do not go any further until you grok that detail, or else you will be unable to appreciate the full and unvarnished assholitude of Mr. Taylor.
With me? Good. Mr. Taylor continues:
The deletion of the domain name was in full compliance of rules of the CIRA (just because it's a rule, doesn't make it right).
Dude, it's not about what's "right," it's about what's legal and what happened here was, as I explained, not only legal but required by CIRA's own rules. How fucking stupid do you have to be to not understand that? But, God help us, Taylor continues and makes an even bigger ass of himself:
Supposedly, if one registers a .ca domain name with anonymous details, the domain name can be removed under the CIRA's rules.
There's no "supposedly" about it, Stephen. Them's the rules. And, once again, it not only can be removed, it must be removed. How many times does someone have to explain that to you, Steve? 'Cuz, frankly, trying to get this through to you is like trying to keep my cat off the table when I have chicken. "No, Sam! No! Get down! I said down! No!"
Sadly, the Taylor assholitude continues with respect to the CIRA rules:
However, one first needs to point it out (as Joe Volpe's campaign did).
Which the Volpe campaign, or anyone else, had every right to do. Taylor's position seems to be that it's all right to violate CIRA rules as long as no one notices. And if someone does notice, well, then it's their fault for being such officious prigs. Wow. That's some moral foundation you have there, Steve. I can see why you're comfortable as a member of the BTs.
Incredibly, Taylor is too stupid to know when to just let it go:
This doesn't necessarily make it right, however. Joe Volpe didn't like the website "youthforvolpe.ca" and he found a way to have the domain name deleted. He was able to do this on a technicality which essentially says that a domain name (and thus free speech delivered via domain names) is only permitted if the user isn't anonymous.
Gosh darn that Joe Volpe, suggesting that CIRA uphold its own mandate and follow its own rules. And the stupidity just goes on and on and on ...
The debate over whether or not one should be able to register a .ca domain name anonymously is certainly one that we should have.
You know, Steve, you're more than welcome to wank off to that debate as much as you want, but it's not relevant since you have to play with the rules as they are now, not as you'd like to debate them to be. Got that? Seriously? Have you got that?
And as much as I'd like to get back to real work, it's worth taking one more whack at Taylor's idiocy:
However, it appears that Joe Volpe's stifling of free speech was done in full compliance of the rules of the CIRA and that he was able to exert censorship over the webmasters at youthforvolpe.ca over a technicality.
And there you have it. That thug Joe Volpe "exerted censorship" and "stifled free speech" by suggesting that CIRA abide by its rules. All we needed was a Jew in there somewhere and, by God, we could have had a "Hitler" reference. Darn all the rotten luck, eh?
Ladies and gentlemen, Stephen Taylor: Your dumbass of the week.
HOLY FUCK. I just this minute noticed that there is a second update to Taylor's article which, hard to believe as it might be, makes him look like an even bigger dickwad. Check back later for the full disemboweling.
