Thomas Kinkade: Hacktacular.

Via PZ over at Pharyngula, confirmation that I'm not the only one who thinks artist Thomas Kinkade turns out overvalued kitsch and is a thoroughly repulsive human being on top of that.

Years ago, when Kinkade was at the peak of his popularity, I had a number of friends (mostly female) who absolutely adored his stuff. I, on the other hand, thought it was on par with velvet Elvis and dogs playing poker.

To each his own, I guess.

My mother has a Thomas Kinkade calendar, and every time I visit her and look at it I feel like screaming. Painter of the Light? I'd take dogs playing poker on velvet anyday.

"This one's for you, Walt," the artist quipped late one night as he urinated on a Winnie the Pooh figure, said Terry Sheppard, a former vice president for Kinkade's company, in an interview."

Piss Pooh?
Kinkade did a Piss Pooh?

The Piss Pooh being of course the revolutionary kickass motel-art version of the Piss Pope.
