The Star sums it up nicely.


Here:

Just two days before the federal election, Liberal MP David Emerson offered this warning to voters who were tempted to vote Conservative:

"Just mark my words. If they get elected, they are going to begin a massive review of programs and a massive set of cuts. ... And people are going to say, `We didn't ask for this. Mr. Harper didn't say this is what he was going to do.'"

Well, Prime Minister Stephen Harper did win, and as fast as you can say "oops," Emerson decided that the Tories aren't so scary after all, and that he would be more comfortable sitting as a Conservative minister than as an opposition member. Yesterday he crossed the floor.

To Harper, that makes Emerson "a man of great intelligence ... who is clearly committed to public service."

And to the rest of Canada, that makes him something else, I'm sure.
