Reaping the Hamas whirlwind.
Years ago, I was among a small group of dinner party guests at the home of some friends who owned a dog. The dog was your basic nondescript pound puppy, friendly and well-behaved without being a slobbering nuisance -- all in all, the perfect family pet.
Unfortunately, one of the couples who had been invited to the party brought their son -- I would guess about six years old -- who made it his divine mission to harass and torture this dog mercilessly. Ear pulling, hair pulling, sitting on it, you name it.
The dog tried unsuccessfully to slink away every time this brat came near it, but the kid was determined to make the dog's life a living hell and the parents (you know the type) were of the opinion that little Johnny could do no wrong and wasn't it delightful that he was "playing" with the dog, etc, etc?
Eventually (and not at all surprisingly), the dog finally had had enough and, when the little monster approached it yet again, there was a very quiet but ominous growl you could hear across the dining room. Well, holy shit, you'd think the sky had just fallen.
That little fucker suddenly started whining about what kind of mean old dog that was, and his asshole parents laid into the hosts about how they should have warned them about the dog's "temper" and that it was clearly not safe to have around children, yadda yadda yadda. Idiots, the whole family.
Which brings us to the state of Israel, who are apparently just as big a collection of boneheaded dumbfucks as this family. Clearly not happy with the Hamas-oriented results of the recent Palestinian elections, Israel has threatened to "withhold millions of dollars worth of tax and customs revenue that it collects on behalf of the Palestinians."
Note carefully -- we're not talking about voluntary donations or charity to the Palestinians. We're talking about money that Israel legally owes the Palestinians but now, in a fit of pique and unfathomable stupidity, it's thinking about hanging onto.
A couple of observations for the Israelis. First, given all of the colourful praise for the delightful virtues of "democracy" that's been bandied about lately, it's more than a little hypocritical to suddenly decide you want to be just a wee bit selective about its results.
And second, having made this kind of threat, it's more than a little unrealistic to suggest that you're not going to pay up until Hamas renounces its commitment to the destruction of the state of Israel. You can only mistreat that poor dog for so long before it's finally going to growl back. And when it does, you don't really have the right to blame the dog anymore, do you?
Let the accusations of anti-Semitism begin.

oh fer christsake. Criticising the policies or actions of the state of Israel doesn't make one anti-semetic. Taking the rantings of one individual idiot, Like Chuckie K, and suggesting that his comments kinda make you "understand" anti-semitism (thereby attributing his opinion to all Jews), is anti-semetic. How can you be so clever about everything else and so obtuse about this?
anon:
I do not think CC is being obtuse at all but recognizing an unfortunate reality. That being there are far too many out there that see any criticism of Israel regarding the Palestinians under their occupation, especially how those Palestinians are treated, as anti-Semitism. Indeed, any criticism of Israeli governmental policy is seen as anti-Semitic by some. It is what makes it so difficult to have a discussion of the policies of the government of Israel in anything resembling a calm and rational manner.
I've been on the wrong side of this more than a few times despite making brutally clear I was referring to the government of Israel’s policies and not the citizens or their Faith. Yet that would be routinely disregarded and the anti-Semitic/Jew hater routine would be started, then more would join in, then they would follow me to other blogs where they would continue with the harassment. So I can well understand why CC said what he did, he is expecting the same type of response from those that see any criticism of Israel, it's government, whatever as anti-Semitic.

There's a bit of history here, as life got exciting last year when I wrote this, which is what "anonymous" is referring to.
Not surprisingly, anonymous misrepresents the basis of that piece which is not that the rantings of Krauthammer alone would be enough to justify anti-Semitism, but that his rantings were published in "Jewish World Review," which clearly suggests that others must agree with him.
In any event, that isue was beaten pretty much to death and I have no interest in revisiting it. You can read it yourself and draw your own conclusions.
Being critical of the actions and policies of a government used to be a cornerstone of democracy. Now when critcism of the current US adminstration is made people are being called un-American, traitors, and supporters of terrorists. Seems alot like what the typical reaction is when comments negative to the Israeli government are made.

I see, thanks for the link I went through it and see what you mean. My apologies for my incorrect assumption. I trust though you can understand why I thought what I did in my post. It is a phenomena that I have watched with increasing concern over the last couple of decades now and these days it is really gone too far IMHO. When one cannot be critical of the policies of a government because it is somehow racist to criticize it because of the ethnicity of the citizens of that country, well then we have a real problem in my view.
After 40 years of raping the occupied territories, I don't think Israel deserves any security, so long as it continues the occupation. Some guy blowing himself up in a market is disgusting, but no more so than what the IDF has done.
All this death because of a bunch of racist, religious nutjobs -- the "settlers".
My theory is that as somebody who is abused will go on to abuse, this has happened on a macro scale. Holocaust surviors (abuse victims) establish country, and go onto to abuse.
I'm not anti-semetic. I think all religion is stupid.
