Dominion Voting versus Rebel News: Sandblaster, meet soup cracker.

It was earlier this year that Dominion Voting Systems, fed up with being relentlessly defamed by various con men, scam artists and opportunistic sleazy hucksters, filed a massive defamation action against numerous entities, including raving dingbat Sidney "Release the Kraken!" Powell and Mike "My Crappy Pillow" Lindell. Both of those yobs tried to have the action dismissed, a pathetic effort that was summarily and savagely kicked to the curb.

Interestingly, Dominion is now going after the increasingly smaller players in their undoubtedly lengthy list of sleaze merchants, and that you're a relatively minor sleazoid is not stopping them:

In other words, even being a small player in the ecosystem of trashy right-wing journalism is not going to protect you, and Dominion is clearly working its way down its lengthy list of probable defendants who should expect an unpleasant letter one of these days. One wonders who else might be on the receiving end of such a missive, oh, dear ...

I smell another frantic fundraiser coming on. But that's just a guess.

P.S. It's not like I didn't warn you. Because I did.

You're welcome.

Really, really stupid people. Coming soon.

"TRUDEAU MUST GO!!!"

... Trudeau calls snap election ...

"TRUDEAU IS A SLEAZY OPPORTUNIST!!!"

Just how incompetent IS Ezra Levant's lawyer?

As I informed my adoring readership recently, Rebel News' Obergruppenfuhrer Ezra Levant just lost his third straight (expensive) anti-SLAPP motion, but what's mirth-making is the mind-blowing level of ineptness of his counsel, who apparently has no idea how this legislation actually works and has never taken the time to figure it out.

Let's be clear -- Ezra was going to lose this motion no matter what, but the arguments put forward by his lawyer are truly head-shaking in their irrelevance and illogic. Here, let me give you just two examples.

From the judge's mercifully short ruling, here's paragraph 22:

"[22] The plaintiff responds that this stage of this proceeding does not require “a fully developed damages brief”.  I agree.  However, as stated in 1704604 Ontario Limited v. Pointes Protection Association, supra (at paragraph 71) to paraphrase, while the harm need not be monetized, there needs to be the “existence” of harm.  That is, some harm needs to be identified.  Here, the plaintiff has acknowledged that there has been no loss of subscribers.  There was no evidence of Rebel News followers thinking less of or contributing less financially to Rebel News as a result of the allegedly defamatory tweet."

Let me explain what's happening here. Ontario's anti-SLAPP legislation is simply a filter -- it is a weeding out mechanism whose purpose is to identify defamation actions that are so utterly without merit or value that there is no point letting them go to trial. And one of the inarguable requirements for your defamation action to defeat the defendant's anti-SLAPP motion and be so allowed to proceed is that you must show some harm or damage of some kind. Any kind -- reputational, financial, just something. But here's the sticky detail.

At the anti-SLAPP stage, you are not required to give a full-blown, fully-costed spreadsheet of the harm you've suffered. By way of example, say you're suing because someone else's alleged defamation cost you business. At trial, you would of course present a comprehensive analysis of the damage, with associated costs and so on. However, for the purposes of the anti-SLAPP motion, that is not necessary -- all that's necessary is you produce some general evidence of harm, such as perhaps some e-mails from clients saying they weren't going to work with you anymore.

See how that works? At the anti-SLAPP stage, no one is asking for excruciating minutiae; rather, all the judge is after is for you to show that there has been harm. This is a painfully simple concept that even first-year law students with massive head injuries have been able to understand by now, and yet ... and yet, Ezra's lawyer seems to have missed that class since, as you can see above, he is clearly making the argument that he need provide no such evidence of any kind, apparently suggesting that can all wait until trial or something. And as you can also see, the judge is having none of it, clearly (with some exasperation) having to explain to Ezra's lawyer how the legislation actually works. But it gets so much worse.

Here's the very next paragraph, wherein Ezra's lawyer ... well, just read it first:

"[23] An allegation was raised that the comment in issue reduced or eliminated a successful application by employees of Rebel News to the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery for membership.  However, production of letters to those employees, dated October 29, 2020, from the executive of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery fails to set out any direct or indirect reference to the allegedly defamatory tweet.  Rather, it explains that, what Rebel News admitted on this motion to be accurate, that the approach taken by Rebel News of being active participants in their stories and taking partian positions in relation to politicians or political parties, was not in accordance with that organization’s requirement to adhere to its “generally accepted journalistic principles and practices”."

This is a fascinating claim, since it clearly suggests that the alleged defamation was the cause of Rebel News being denied membership in the Canadian PPG and, if this was true, it actually would represent actual harm, and Ezra would have satisfied that particular test of the anti-SLAPP legislation. Let me say that again -- if Ezra could establish that the alleged defamation was why he was given the brush-off by the PPG, he would have his damage. So what's the problem?

Dear freaking God ... having made that claim and apparently suggesting it was backed up by actual correspondence from the PPG, Ezra's lawyer produces said correspondence ... which says nothing of the sort. Let me say that again -- Ezra's lawyer clearly argued that damage would be established by the correspondence from the PPG, and when forced to produce the correspondence, it established absolutely nothing of the sort.

How dense must you be to have done this? How thick would you need to be to think that maybe the judge would just take your word for something and not, you know, actually read the letters? And how humiliating would it be to have made that claim in court, and have the judge hypothetically mutter something like, "I'm sorry, I don't see the slightest evidence of what you are currently yapping on about."?

With counsel like this, it's understandable why Ezra is currently on such a spectacular losing streak. One can only hope for more hysterically entertaining (and insanely expensive) dumbassery of the kind in the near future.

AFTERSNARK: One wonders what is going through the minds of Rebel News' crack videographers as they humiliate themselves publicly begging for dosh to upgrade their crappy equipment:

even as they watch Ezra piss away a total of $151,439.76 in Rebel funds because his widdle feewings were hurt:

One wonders if these clueless young 'uns are ever going to twig to the fact that their efforts are simply subsidizing the pointless, vindictive legal actions of a self-promoting narcissist.

Good luck with that fundraiser, kids.

"Damn you, luxury tax!", howls part-time waiter from Lethbridge.

The true brilliance of Rebel News is its ability to generate a seething rage and feeling of unfairness among grocery store cashiers and gas station attendants from outside Red Deer over the extra cash they'll have to fork over when they finally decide to splurge on that 2022 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster.

JUXTAPOSE!

 Huh ...

No, no, too wordy ... let's tighten that up a bit:

"It's not for Lord Baron Twatrick von Loadenhosen to accept or reject the $85,000 judgment for malicious defamation against him.

"The court issues the judgment, the defendant pays it. End of conversation."

Yeah ... much better.

Yes, I really am that good. It's a curse.

Several days ago, I opined that the rancidly racist, white supremacist and (yes) anti-Semitic Rebel News had burned so many bridges that, well, here:

As if they're trying to make me a prophet, well, here you go:

But I'm guessing there's more to this story than meets the eye, so you might want to check back later.

JUXTAPOSE!

Worthless right-wing hacks who politicized vaccine distribution numbers to attack Justin Trudeau will now complain about ... oh, fuck it, just read:

BONUS TRACK: How could I have overlooked the fact that the utterly valueless Brian Lilley defends Doug Ford while boning Ford's press secretary?

Yes, I am that freaking good.

It was back on Aug 8 (go and check for yourself) that I predicted that none of the lying liars that lie for Rebel News would be able to resist totally misrepresenting a Proud Boys hoedown in Portland as an alleged "Christian prayer rally" (complete with full-colour banner of Our Lord and Savior Donald J. Trump clearly visible in the background):

and would proceed to shriek hysterically like an 8-year-old schoolgirl or Sheila Gunn Reid over the vicious and savage intolerance of the Antifa black bloc BLM Communist Marxist Romulan Borg collective towards religion and children and puppies and rainbows.

Behold, the very next day:

Yes, I am that good.

P.S. There is something almost sad-making about recent Rebel addition Adam Soos, who seems utterly incapable of shame, and is willing to put his name to the most ridiculous and obviously fabricated nonsense imaginable.

One can accept that Rebeler and Oil Patch Barbie Sheila Gunn Reid is a relentless prevaricator, while still giving her credit for at least trying to make her stories plausible to the extent that they will be taken seriously by children, people with massive head injuries and anyone living in Red Deer.

Soos, on the other hand ... he apparently has no filter that allows him to be even remotely aware of how ridiculous his musings are. None. There is nothing one cannot imagine Soos publishing in all seriousness:

"Last night, a drunken group of NDP supporters attacked a child's birthday party in Edmonton, murdered everyone there, sodomized the dog, then flew away on dragons back to Westeros.

"Back to you in the studio, David."

Give Gunn Reid credit for being sleazy, underhanded and dishonest, while still clearly knowing when to draw the line and understanding when she is sliding into screaming idiocy.

Just give Soos credit for being an idiot.

Monday, August 09, 2021

Oh, dear ... that's gonna leave a mark.

Ezra takes it on the chin again:

I'm sure "The Democracy Fund" will pitch in, or something.

P.S. Note that the above amount does not include whatever Ezra/Rebel shelled out for its own legal fees, which one suspects would be in a similar neighbourhood of $75,000 to $100,000. But that's just a guess.

P.P.S. Pure speculation, but I'm guessing that Ezra's wedgies from the court related to his three recent anti-SLAPP losses is costing him/Rebel well upwards of $500,000. Well upwards, as he not only has to eat all of his own legal fees, but has to cover the entirety of the costs of the successful defendant.

What luck that he has the dumbest supporters in the world.

Praise the Lord and pass the Kevlar bulletproof vests.

Here's ex-Rebeler and thoroughly dishonest hack Jack Posobiec sobbing inconsolably over the disruption of a "Christian prayer event" where, as we all know, proper worship of the Christian God requires a sizable flag of Donald Trump hanging out there in the background:

And here's the equally sleazy and Rebel News favourite Andy Ngo, doubling down on the "small family worship event":

an event after which numerous family members hopped in the family car and, fully-equipped with shields, helmets and para-military gear, headed over to IHOP for some waffles:

Who wore it better?

JUXTAPOSE!

On the other hand, the public should also know when Brian Lilley is acting like a pandering, sycophantic, right-wing, ass-kissing suck-up to power and doing everything he can to kill your children.

Wait for it ... wait for it ...

I can't imagine how anyone at Rebel News is going to let this slide, and I predict much shrieky hyper-ventilating over the intolerance and hateful violence of "The Left":

Except there's more here than meets the eye, so let's see if Der Rebel rises to the bait, and then we'll dig into what really happened.

BONUS TRACK: This would be members of the Portland "Christian prayer event," high-tailing it out of town:

Jason Kenney has a good idea.

Excellent. Now do Canada's Equalization Formula.

Rebel News is going to get people killed.

There is no diplomatic way to suggest that if people take medical advice from the irresponsible, ignorant yobs at Rebel News, some of them will die. Here's the indescribably sleazy and opportunistic David "The Menses" Menzies and "Bitumen Barbie" Sheila Gunn Reid, touting the virtues of going "full Florida" back on July 30:

And how is that working out for Florida? Well, fuck ...

So, sure, let's do that. What could possibly go wrong?

JUXTAPOSE!

Rebel News: "COVID-19 is a total hoax, and vaccines don't work and will kill you, and you should always claim you have a mask exemption (but refuse to prove it) so you can more easily spread the virus like a plague rat, and it's important to gather in large groups unmasked just to own the libs and we'll do everything we can to support your violating pandemic regulations because Justin Trudeau, so get out there and infect people!"

Also Rebel News: "Why is COVID-19 still an issue? It's a complete mystery."

Yeah, I'm that good. Deal with it.

It was back on August 3 (see for yourself) that I pointed out the ever-diminishing collection of loons, dingbats, numbnuts and twatwaffles that were willing to show up on a Rebel News broadcast, specifically calling out the deranged nutbar Derek Sloan:

And three days later:

Am I good or what?

Saturday, August 07, 2021

Yeah, this.

AFTERSNARK: As one online wag suggested, you should look on the bright side, and that's that, in a few weeks, you'll be able to get a good deal on a used bike:

"FOR SALE: Fully-loaded 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide Special. Barely ridden. Need to sell quickly to pay hospital bills. Will take any reasonable offer."

JUXTAPOSE!

 Um ...

So, just to be clear, this would be the unemployed and massively unemployable university dropout and undischarged bankrupt who owes me $112K+, crapping all over people who try to get by on minimum wage, and leaping to the defense of CEOs who rake in, on average, $5,850 per hour.

Feel free to try to understand that kind of thinking.

JUXTAPOSE!

Man who once ran a web site selling white supremacist and Nazi memorabilia will now lecture you on autocratic dictators and fascism:

No, really, he went there.

The ever-shrinking universe of Rebel News.

There's an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" wherein Dr. Beverly Crusher is accidentally trapped inside a "warp bubble," which turns out to be a slowly-decreasing volume of an entire universe, and she has to figure out how to escape before it collapses on her completely. (Spoiler: She escapes.)

Welcome to Rebel News, which is an equally-shrinking universe of "experts" or "pundits" or however the yobs at Der Rebel describe the inexorably decreasing number of people that seem willing to come on their programs and humiliate themselves for the camera time. If you're willing to sacrifice the precious minutes still available to you and avail yourself of Rebel's vaunted "Premium Content" interviews, you start to realize that it's pretty much the same collection of bloviating gasbags over and over and over and over and over and over and ... well, you get the idea.

For starters, these days, if you need a totally-unqualified contrarian to bad-mouth vaccines who has no expertise in the field, Oil Patch Barbie Sheila Gunn Reid has just the person -- over and over, again and again, repeatedly -- one Dr. Roger Hodkinson:

because, apparently, hearing a second doctor's opinion is a bit too ambitious or something.

If you need an "expert" to pooh-pooh the entire concept of climate change, well, step right up, Climate Depot's Marc Morano:

Want someone to opine tediously on the current state of Alberta's oil industry? Apparently, there is one and only one person worth listening to -- Robbie Picard:

And, most recently, when it comes to blathering on ignorantly about climate science and that nefarious foreign fundraising and foreign interference, it appears that the only person who will ever, ever, ever, ever be invited to present an opinion is the (laughably-misnamed) Friends of Science's Michelle Stirling:

At this point, one suspects one could write out the entirety of Rebel News' Rolodex on the back of a postage stamp with a shaving brush.

P.S. Yes, I will be getting back to the shadowy group of dudes that is "The Democracy Fund" in short order, so be patient.

Eight minutes and 50 seconds you'll never get back.

And given that Lloydminster's Patrick Ross currently owes me $112K+ (and increasing every day) pursuant to a 2010 judgment for malicious defamation, you'd think he might spend his time doing something, you know, billable:

Ah, well, I hear he inherited a bunch of farmland from his grandfather so I'll be taking that instead.

It's good to have land.

JUXTAPOSE!

Cool. Now do Canada's Equalization Formula.

JUXTAPOSE!

People currently insisting that Canada's Charter guarantees that religiously devout can worship absolutely any way they want with no interference from government same ones who once promoted a "barbaric cultural practices" hotline to tattle on religious groups whose practices they disapproved of.

So ... there's that.

Rebel's Katherine Krozonouski and Andrew Chapados: Liars or imbeciles?

It is truly mind-numbing to learn that Rebel's newest utterly talentless hack, Katherine Krozonouski, is quite possibly either dumber or more dishonest than Sheila Gunn Reid, as she and equivalently worthless yob Andrew Chapados hork up the following stupidity:

So the two of those dimbulbs are quite sure that the right to worship in any way one wants without restrictions of any kind is "part of our Charter," are they? Hey, I know, let's do something massively radical and unexpected and read the very first paragraph of said Charter, shall we?

wherein even the dumbest among us will notice that all of our vaunted rights and freedoms are, in fact, conditional, and are "subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society."

Now, I have to ask, what part of that confuses anyone? What part of that does not make it clear that all of our guaranteed rights and freedoms must still be weighed against extenuating circumstances that might require temporary curtailing of some of those rights ... extenuating circumstances such as, oh, I don't know, a global fucking pandemic, which might encourage setting limits on mass gatherings so that, oh, I don't know, people don't get sick and die!!

It is truly incomprehensible that any sentient object is incapable of reading that single sentence and not understand what it means but, hey, these are Rebel News dingbats we're talking about so, maybe not so surprising after all.

There's sex workers, there's whores and there's Brian Lilley.

And by "the left," I assume Brian Lilley means "parents who don't want their children to die":

JUXTAPOSE!

People: "Man, you just can't trust those scientists and libtards. First, they tell you we don't need masks, then they say we absolutely need them, then they tell us it will take five years for a vaccine but we get it in less than one, and then we need two shots but now maybe it's three, and we'll be fine after the first wave but then there's another one and another one, and now it turns out that even if you're vaccinated you can still catch COVID-19 and spread it, and you know how they explain all this? They say that a lot of this is uncharted territory and no one could have foreseen piles of this and that they don't have perfect knowledge and that's how science works as they amass more data, I mean, is that pathetic or what, blaming their failures on not having perfect forecasting and predictive ability, what a bunch of fucking losers and con artists!!"

Same people: "Well, sure, here in Alberta, the UCP promised us a rosy economy and great jobs and full employment, but then there was the pandemic, and crashing oil prices, and the cancellation of pipelines, but whose fault is that, huh? How are we supposed to predict all that stuff? How could we possibly know all of that would happen, it's not like we should have prepared for any kinds of eventualities or have a contingency plan or anything. Christ, how can you blame people for not being able to predict the future?"

Please tell me I've made my point.

Happy National Boob Day!

Here you go:

Rebel News: The douchebagitude never ends.

I'm trying -- really, I am -- to finish a couple lengthy pieces about the absolutely delectable grift that is Rebel's "Fight the Fines" campaign, as well as the mysterious CRA-registered charity "The Democracy Fund" (conveniently run by long-time buddies of one Ezra Levant) that is currently laundering ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H repurposing donations for that campaign while gleefully promising charitable tax receipts to all and sundry, but an anonymous evil minion makes a minor and amusing observation, and that is how Rebel News has completely burned its bridges in terms of having even the most miniscule journalistic credibility that would attract A-list or B-list or C-list or even D-list personalities and, having already plumbed the bottom of every barrel in sight, are now reduced to lifting up the barrels to see what's underneath.

Having pissed off and alienated even Canada's right-wing federal and provincial parties (the CPC, and the idiot governments running Ontario and Alberta), the poor sots at Rebel are reduced to giving air time to such intellectual luminaries as political rejects Derek Sloan and the truly deranged secessionist parties out west, but the bareness of the cupboard at Rebel can be seen in this single snapshot on the main web page:

This microcosm of alleged "news" tells you everything you need to know about the state of affairs at Der Rebel, when this idiocy is considered trending/breaking information.

There's Oil Patch Barbie Sheila Gunn Reid's groundbreaking interview with ... oh, who the fuck knows who that is, some snuff-chawing, pickup-driving, hat-wearing moron who Gunn Reid hyperventilatingly introduces with:

Danger Cats is an Alberta phenomenon. It is more than just a website or a YouTube channel that mocks everyone from Gen Z, Gen Y, Trudeau, environmentalists, woke scolds and even themselves. It’s a lifestyle ecosystem, replete with merch and podcasts that embraces the hard-living, hard-partying, hard-working stereotypes Alberta’s blue collar workforce is labelled with. Danger Cats takes the snobby criticisms of Albertans and embraces them. “Yeah, we swear and we drive big trucks. So what?”

Yup, that is some Pulitzer-worthy shit, that is. I'm shocked -- SHOCKED, I SAY!! -- that there are Albertans that drive trucks and swear a lot and hate liberals! Who knew?

Then there's the massively untalented Andrew Chapados, regaling us with stories of ... Jesus fucking Christ, but who in the name of Mutt is "Tarl Warwick (StyxHexenHammer666)" ... oh:

Warwick discusses the shortcomings of 'critical race theory' and why it is being pushed by so many institutions and media members. He also explains his long journey as a commentator, from his upbringing as a practicing Christian, to a Satanist (really), all the way through atheism and finally to becoming a general researcher into religions and occultism.

Then there's the perpetually-arrested David "The Menses" Menzies, who thinks we have a desperate need to know about ... oh, who the hell cares?

And hey, did you get the memo? Recently, Canada anointed a new queen to lord over us. Alas, Her Royal Highness Romana Didulo is so much fakery, yet thousands of people are apparently buying into this proclamation. Andrew Chapados will try to make sense of it all.

Yes, please ... do go ahead and make sense of it all. We'll be waiting right here.

WHAT DID I JUST SAY? As if determined to prove my point, yesterday's Ezra Levant shriek-a-thon featured the deranged wackadoodleness of Tom Flanagan, Jack Mintz and Ted Morton:

THIS IS TOO EASY: As if absolutely obsessed with making me a prophet, here's the current front page at Der Rebel:

That would be an interview with child porn-watching apologist Tom Flanagan, accompanied on the right by four stories about ... Australia.

Such is the irrelevance of Rebel News.

You're welcome.

"Fight the Fines" campaign and charitable tax receipts: Weirder and weirder.

We are so not done with the strangeness that is Rebel News' "Fight the Fines" campaign and its insistence that you can get a charitable tax receipt as long as you donate to a totally unrelated organization, something the Canada Revenue Agency pretty clearly insists is not allowed:

The additional weirdness that was just brought to my attention is the following snippet from Rebel's donation web page:

Here's the strangeness: Normally, when you set up a fundraiser, you're either a registered CRA charity (which allows you to dispense tax receipts), or you're not, and you normally make it absolutely clear which is which in very large letters so there is no misunderstanding. And if you can generate tax receipts, you would normally shout that from the rooftops so donors know they can claim that next tax time.

To the best of my knowledge, I have never seen a single fundraising campaign that gives donors a choice to either be eligible for a tax receipt or not. Why would any fundraiser or campaign set up two donation mechanisms when the one that is tax-deductible would work and is clearly superior? (And lest any idiot replies with, "Yeah, well, what if a donor isn't interested in a tax receipt?", then they can simply not request one. Duh.)

The above choice in fundraising portal is simply baffling, and anyone who thinks they can explain it is welcome to expound on that in the comments section.

BY THE WAY, it is equally baffling that, for a CRA-registered charity that promises charitable tax receipts for Rebel's "Fight the Fines" campaign, their web page says nothing about that campaign.

Curious, is it not?

OOOOOHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYY ... Anonymous evil minion just dropped on me a possible rationale for the very strange donation setup for Rebel News' "Fight the Fines" campaign, and it is a doozy. You might want to check back tomorrow morning for the ugly (and wildly speculative) details.

JUXTAPOSE!

Um ... OK ...

Just so we're clear, Lloydminster's Patrick Ross -- a man who defamed me maliciously over a decade ago, declared bankruptcy to escape the subsequent $85,000 civil judgment, committed harassment and identity fraud by impersonating a businessman and submitting that man's corporate info to countless spam mailing lists, bragged for weeks about beating up a gay man, and is (apparently) conspiring with his family members to transfer ownership of his assets to conceal them from me -- will now lecture us about "honour."

Sure. Why not?

AFTERSNARK: Evil minion points out that, incomprehensibly, Patrick is currently a 1-year director at the Lloydminster Lions Club, who typically pride themselves on their moral upstandingness:

I'm guessing their standards aren't what they used to be.

The burning stupid of Sheila Gunn Reid.

Here's Rebel News' garbage human Sheila Gunn Reid, cheering on COVID-19 in Florida only a year ago because, hey, the state is run by a Republican and even people dying has to be a political issue with Gunn Reid:

So , Sheila, how's that masturbation over the "success" of Florida working out for you? Well, damn ...

That's awkward.

JUXTAPOSE!

This would be Lloydminster's "Outlaw Tory," insisting there should be financial consequences for being a mouthy asshole:

Noted.
