Irony, sweet irony.

Apparently, I am a bad person because of my hideously unfair generalization. But that's just what all of us terrorist-loving, baby-murdering, socialist, moonbat leftards do, isn't it?

Tune in tomorrow when all Obama supporters suddenly become Marxists.

What is your defense here? That because other people make generalization you are justified in making generalization?

What a dope you are.

Thanks for dropping by, Hugh. Say hi to the rest of the kids on the short bus for me.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

Yep, thanks for demonstrating my point.

My stars ... such language. You, sir, have no sense of decorum or manners.

No, really.

From Hugh's post:

Dr. Dawg, I've never heard Kathy Shaidle say anything racist...

Oh, God, we're back to square one. I've never figured out what her exact motivation has been when she's written appallingly racist/bigoted things; I was willing to believe, for a time, that she was sacrificing her credibility and reputation (*snort*...such as they are) to shake the Canadian polity out of its straight-jacket of so-called political correctness and loosen its unexamined embrace of "multi-culti" diversity (which she of course, never understood when she was a drunken lefty) but I don't frankly care anymore. She may not be a racist in any sense that the bigotry of a raging mediocrity should matter to anyone, but the bilious harridan is certainly lunatic enough to warrant a wide berth by people we'd like to think value their own credibility.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

Ti-Guy, I don't really know Kathy Shaidle so I don't really know what you are talking about. But this is my point. There is an accusation where is the backing of that accusation?

Nullig, considering that we are talking about broad generalizations of groups, your comment it pretty ironic.

Ti-Guy said...

But this is my point. There is an accusation where is the backing of that accusation?

Have you done any research on that yourself? A Google search, perhaps, on "kathy shaidle" + racist? Start there and track it back to her original utterances and formulate whatever thesis you want.

It's a complicated mess with her, at any rate. She's offered, variously, explanations that one must distinguish a persona from a real life person, some libertarian cant about freedom of speech and endless, relentless, dreary diatribes about the value of "hate." And there's the libel, but I digress...

Whatever.

From "Arabs are violent retards" to her many admiring references to white supremist Steve Sailer, to her current crap about Native people, she's a racist through and through--and I suspect Hugh knows this very well.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

The comments on Kinsella's blog are indeed racist and stupid. Thank you for someone that has finally provided me with an example, of what you people are talking about.

This, however, still does not make the Western Standard racist for not supporting Obama.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

Dr. Dawg, I've honestly never heard of her before. Why do you assume that I know this?

Hugh MacIntyre said...

Actually I should clarify, I have heard of her before, but I am not really familiar with her writing. IE, I've hear her name in passing.

Ti-Guy said...

See? Doing their work for them doesn't really accomplish anything. It just leads to more accusations of unfairness, etc.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

What accusations of unfairness am I making? I'm not defending anyone. I don't know enough to take a side on "is she or isn't she racist." I don't really care either way.

My whole point is that the Western Standard is not racist. And calling it racist is baseless and nasty blogging at its worse.

sooey said...

Hey, hey, hey. There's nothing wrong with believing a black man shouldn't be President, Hugh.

No wait. Oops. There is. Nevermind.

Heheh - I mean, who are you tryin' to kid? Even Republicans are voting for Obama.

Ti-Guy said...

My whole point is that the Western Standard is not racist. And calling it racist is baseless and nasty blogging at its worse.

I'm sure there is worse blogging. Like Kathy Shaidle's. And blog posts that lack research...

Hugh MacIntyre said...

I don't really care what race the President is.

I care about their policies. Obama is not offering any solutions to the real problems plaguing America. In fact he is going to make them worse.

I would say the exact same thing about McCain, what does that make me? Ageist?

Ti-Guy said...

Obama is not offering any solutions to the real problems plaguing America. In fact he is going to make them worse.

He just might, but for argument's sake, how so?

Hugh MacIntyre said...

If you had bothered to read the Western Standard article and the reasons why they would vote, you would know my answer to that. I will summarize for you;

The largest problem facing the US is the deficit and the debt. Nothing that Obama is proposing would bring either of those under control. Large structural changes to the financial and revenue system in the US government need to be made. The only one proposing such changes is Bob Barr.

sooey said...

Gee, it still sounds like you just don't want Obama to win because he's black.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

At this point, Sooey, I'm going to assume you are joking.

sooey said...

No. He's black alright.

Ti-Guy said...

The largest problem facing the US is the deficit and the debt. Nothing that Obama is proposing would bring either of those under control.

Well, of course not (and neither would anything McCain is proposing). You don't win American elections by promising to solve problems, especially when you can never, ever suggest that sacrifice has to be part of that solution.

Do you think the average American thinks the largest problem facing him or her is deficit and debt? Or thought, until two months ago, that is?

Remember...Canadians are the only people who have to worry about such things.

Hugh MacIntyre said...

I wrote it already Sooey, but just so it is seen twice;

I don't care what racial decent the president is. Actually I don't care about race in any respect. Ethnicity is nothing but a historiographical construct.

If you choose not to believe me, then even Socrates won't be able to convince you.

Sheena said...

"Ethnicity is nothing but a historiographical construct."

I believe that's a FAIL kinda line in anything beyond a 100 level BA Western Civ course.

Sheena said...

Sooey really should just stfu. She knows full well that the Western Standard has had African American writers for them regularly in the past. Those guys and child-beatin' daughters-in-law of Law 'n Order cabinet ministers.

I used to LOVE those columns. Miss all the free copies they used to flog in the Maple Leaf Lounges. Too bad about those cartoons. I had to switch to Toronto Life and Alberta Oil mag thieving after Ezra got his rag turfed from the sacred Air Canada riff-raffing preventive zone

WV: rocula and I don't even have a cough.

It's okay, Hugh. Y'all will be vindicatified when Marvene from the 'hood shows up to the Oval Office with li'l Tyrone, "Obama ain't payin' for his kidz neither an' he's all axin' like he's the President? an' he don't even show up for his baby Tyrone's 3 month birthday!"

Hugh MacIntyre said...

Ti-guy, can you clarify that? Are you saying that you think Obama will cut spending but won't say it because it is unpopular? Or are you saying that no one will do it because it is unpopular?

Sheena, I stick by that statement. I have known respected University Professors to say similar things., so I don't think it is that outrages of a claim.

It is a little off topic for this post, so if you really want to get into it you can e-mail me at hughmacintyre@aol.com.

Ti-Guy said...

Miss all the free copies they used to flog in the Maple Leaf Lounges.

Especially with a delayed flight and the minions remembering to stock up on the Tanqueray.

*sigh*...Memories of a youthful liver long forgotten...

wv: "prodo." Fuck. Uncanny.

Dr.Dawg said...

Ethnicity is nothing but a historiographical construct.

Actually, that's spot on, and well said. "Race," too, is a construct. But too many people use the category--and we know to what end.

For the record, Hugh, I have no reason to doubt your bona fides--disagreeing with Obama's policies and politics is fair enough. I disagree with a lot of them too.

I am not nearly so certain about some of your colleagues who voted in the straw poll, though.

Sheena said...

"It is a little off topic for this post, so if you really want to get into it you can e-mail me at hughmacintyre@aol.com."

Ti-Guy said...

I don't know, Hugh. We'll just have to wait 'n see.

Hugh, I hope your head has been thoroughly welcomed to the brick wall of Canadian Cynic and their ilk.

It's ok. We've all had head injuries trying to reason with them. Welcome to the far-far left. Just as bad as the far-far right.

Umm... Sooey? I believe that it is spelted "John Edwards"...

Dr.Dawg said...

PS: Lemme nuance that last comment a little. "Ethnicity" is also a narrative that a group may tell about itself--so it's not merely historiographical (i.e., imposed from without). If you meant, however, that it is a contingent concept, a category of practice rather than a category of analysis, then I'm with you.

This is a good article:

Rogers Brubaker and Frederick Cooper, "Beyond 'identity'", Theory and Society 29 (2000).
