If I was a betting man ...

That Harry Reid -- ever the tease. First, let's set the stage:

Bush May Recess-Appoint Homophobic Surgeon General Nominee Who Wants To Cure Gays

And what are the Dems going to do about it? Ooh ooh ... Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gets all uppity and everything:

With just two days to go until the Thanksgiving recess, Democratic leaders once again are considering holding the Senate in a series of pro forma sessions to stop President Bush from using the break to install any of his outstanding executive branch nominees.

The move comes as speculation mounts that Bush will use the period to push through some controversial appointments while Senators are out of town for the two-week period. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) could all but block the president from doing so, however, if he opts to call the chamber into nonvoting sessions every three days — thus doing away with an extended recess.

*Sigh*. Dear Harry: Actually taking a stand like that requires something resembling a backbone and, frankly, if history is any judge, I don't think you've got the grapes.

Anyone want a piece of that action?

"if history is any judge"

there's more tension between congress and chimpco these days (stemming primarily from the debate over s-chip), so reid may be less inclined to broker deals like he did back in august.

pro forma session seems a simple enough maneuver, and reid seems intent on it. while mukasey's strikes me as a lame-duck appointment, here's hoping reid at last follows through. my dems haven't lived up to my expectations....

I'd put down a large chunk of my pay against Reid actually accomplishing anything. First off he'll face a revolt from his own party because they want to spend time with their families over the holidays, second he won't have support from the public because this isn't a visible issue. Finally, well, he's a democrat.

I'd even give points on this one.

Reid has threatened this shit so many times before. Even at Huffpo, they laugh in his face. He is as embarassing as McCain.

I agree with jay, but three points.
