I have to believe something here was lost in translation:
Pope Benedict said Saturday that low birth rates in Canada are the result of the "pervasive effects of secularism" and asked the country's bishops to counter the trend by preaching "with passion" the truth of Christ.
Because, as we all know, there's no one better to give you advice on dealing with a low birth rate than someone who's taken a lifelong vow of celibacy.
Or maybe it's the gays' fault. That must be it.

Well, Catholic Priest do know something about kids...
Yes, you know because the planet doesn't have enough people as it is. And you know we're not reaching a global sustainability crisis.
Go Ratzinger!
Yikes and ewww mike! "Knowing" something about kids...
Sadly, it's true. The Bible tells endless stories of people who "lose" their way, do awful things, yet are forgiven, lo! even exalted because of their sin.
Not in Canada you say? Pity.
Now we have this Pope telling Canadian Catholic politicians they are going against God if they vote or use their influence for what their constituents want versus what the Church wants.
Hmmmm...
I wonder, when politicians like David Emerson toss off the constituents with impunity, what happens?
Absolutely nothing, is what happens. You don't see the Church condemning such treacherous, two-faced actions from mere politicians. In those instances the Church deigns to be above mere mortal dealings.
This churchy business has got to be banished from the government; that way lies deception, misrepresentation, disrepresentation and ultimately the undermining of our Charter, paving the way for the subjugation of our free people to the status of minions.
Let the Pope deal with matters of the papacy. Let the rest of us render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and render unto God that which is God's, and grant us each our God given right to ascertain that for ourselves as per our own God given free will.
The day Canada as a nation bows down to any religious leader of any sort, or a dictator of any description, is the day when Canada ceases to exist.
