Dear Stephen Taylor: About pigs and lipstick ...

Hey, Steve (can I call you "Steve"?), I'm curious ... with all this talk lately about intolerance and incivility and name-calling in the blogosphere, I'm interested in your take on members of your Blogging Tories blogroll who are still portraying members of a womens' rights and advocacy group as, well, pigs. Literally:

I'm sure you remember that little brouhaha from a while back, when numerous members of your BT blogroll viciously attacked the group "Status of Women Canada," an attack which included taking their proper abbreviation -- "SWC" -- mangling it to get "SOW" and, well, I'm guessing you can see the end result up there.

Yes, that was some demonstration of right-wing tolerance and civility, wasn't it -- beating up on a womens' rights group to the point of portraying them graphically as swine. Yeah, that was a real knee-slapper, you betcha. (Not quite as hilarious as making fun of dead Jews but, then again, what is?)

And the amazing thing is, it's still going on! Why, even as I type, BT member dr. roy (or "Jabba the Roy" as we call him around here) has that graphic up on his main web page here. And given that he's an official member of the BTs, it seems only fair to ask what your policy is on BT members describing women who advocate for other women in need as barnyard animals.

More to the point, since the Blogging Tories are so clearly a propaganda arm of the Stephen Harper Party of Canada, one might even ask a CPoC spokesperson how they feel about the party's blogging arm doing that sort of thing. It does seem like a reasonable question, wouldn't you say?

In any event, I just thought I'd ask given that, since so many of your BTers are capable of getting their panties in a knot over nothing more than intemperate language, it seems at least a little hypocritical to tolerate that sort of graphic, demeaning, sexist rubbish on the web site of one of your own members.

I just thought I'd point it out. And don't thank me -- exposing Blogging Tory bald-faced hypocrisy, intolerance, sexism and misogyny is what I live for.

Remember, conservatives (genuine ones) consider hypocrisy "the homage vice pays to virtue." In other words, if you're not a hypocrite, then it's not even possible for you to recognise virtue; if you are a hypocrite, it's because you understand that virtue is something so beautiful and ideal that no one, not even oneself, can live up to its standards. And in that honesty and self-awareness, you're redeemed.

Yes, they are that fucked up.
