Apparently, no one loves us anymore.

I remember the good old days. *Sigh*.

I blame the Liberals.

Yay! More blogs to boycott!

Hey, I'm down there in the cellar with ya (having clawed my way back from obscurity due to the switch to Wordpress).

So I ask (again)... How does "Marginalized Action Dinosaur" consistently rate so highly? Is it the ugly, poorly formatted, widget-busy format? The thoughtless, inane posts? The zillion links to every other right-wing nutjob site?

Trying to figure out the keys to "success" here... ;)

If you check the Alexa traffic details for some of those blog, some interesting things pop up:

Traffic from the Canada/US

Smalldeadanimals: 49%/39%
Fivefeetoffury: 44%/53%
Steyonline: 23%/70%
Ghostofaflea: 32%/48%
Girlontheright: 33%/54%

michaelgeist: 59%/14%
warrenkinsella: 88%/9%
jamesbow: 64%/24%
abandonedstuff: 74%/15%
redtory: 76%/14%
canadiancynic: 92%/(not recorded)

The wingnut blog traffic is dramatically inflated by the promotion they get from US wingnuts (and they get a lot, from high traffic sites; American progressives rarely mention Canadian blogs). If you're going to call something Canadian, there should probably be some control related to whom the blog appeals.

A good way to get the hit count up, for a short burst, might be to write posts suggesting the US do away with a few 1st and 2nd amendment rights, separate the head of state and head of executive into two separate roles, declare Spanish a second official language, let the South separate, free Puerto Rico from colonial rule, adopt the Metric System, etc. And then, drop by a few American wingnut sites and link-whore.

Just saying, but maybe if you focused more on your own thoughts and ideas instead of constantly responding to the idiot right you'd appeal to more people.

You seem to have a strange obsession with some of the most retarded people I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Are 12 year old bloggers really worth the pixels? I would never have stumbled on these morons if not for your site. You're helping spread their message. You could at least respond as to "why" they are morons instead of just constantly linking to their blogs and saying something like:

"Shorter blogging Tory does something stupid -link- "

This is a blog dedicated to snark, not a consultation in preparation for the DSM-V.

Besides, it's 23 year-old undergrads who have to start explaining why these people are morons.

Actually, for me, it's not the ignorance. It's the narcissism and the conceit. The most astonishing thing about these boobs is the complete absence of any admission that they could ever wrong about anything, when in fact they're wrong about everything, all the time.

I'll assume that's a reference to me. I blog when I feel like it, it's not my job, it is less than a passing hobby. Nevertheless, I'd like to think I go on sufficient rants to explain why I think a particular person or opinion is moronic. One sentence posts with a link are just site plugs.

In any case, I agree with your statement that it is the lack of ability to introspect or be reflexive about your writing/opinions that disappoints me about the vast majority of posters, on all degrees of the political spectrum.

CC leads a mini-revue of artisto-scientistic ne'erdowells who give the rest of us lurkers a virtual pub table version of the Daily Show. They zing the neighbours in our neck of the woods who'd like everyone to live by condo-codes made up by 'Those Who Know Better Than The Rest Of Us Ungrateful Wretches'.

Every once in awhile the headliners fall off the wagon and find their heads in a serious hat, where they're fully capable and failingly human, but it's snark that's historically proven to deflate pomposity far faster than any serious 'analysis'.

Like John Stewart berated the so-called pundits who attempted to gotcha him on their show, he's an entertainer and *they're* the political experts, why aren't they talking to power in a serious manner? Why was it being left to him?

To the person so ably pointing out how serious analysis is badly needed to rationally oppose the wingnut stances, nothing is stopping a personage like yourself from doing just that. Go to. If it's good stuff, CC et co. have proven more than able to link to the righteous thinkers and promote them.

But pointing and laughing seems far more irritating to the souls Ti-Guy has rightly pointed out as being capable of ignoring facts and reality, so CC's barbed facetiousness has a proper place at the dissent table, as-it-has-ever-been-since-the-days-of-Greek-theatre-and-prose.

I think this blog used to be more analytical, but I imagine, like the rest of us, it's just become repetitive and exhausting to explain why these people are like they are.

that disappoints me about the vast majority of posters, on all degrees of the political spectrum.

I disagree and I'm not arguing about it anymore. The Right is primitive. We've had 8 years of proof of exactly that (actually, Canada's had proof of that going back to the foundation of the Reform Party, but it took the Bush administration to bring that seed to full bloom). The downside to our political discourse is that Canadians are just not that accustomed to wringing humour out of these people. What they believe just isn't funny anymore and hasn't been since the Iraq invasion, which they supported, and at which point I stopped laughing.

Duly noted, and thanks for the great response. I agree snark has its place... I love the snark, but I wish psa would post more. Pretty much the reason I read the blog in the first place.

"The zillion links to every other right-wing nutjob site?"

It doesn't hurt, that's for sure.

Ti-guy's analysis is bang on. The US is the path to grow if you're a Canadian progressive blog. The trick is to do it while maintaining progressive writing, and getting Americans to care. The easy route is to attract the ones who are stark raving mad and angry about "issues" like second languages, and immigration.
