Let the mayhem begin!

I have no idea how this will affect the current firestorm but you just know it's going to be an issue:

Family kept Loney's homosexuality quiet, feared actions of Iraqi captors

TORONTO (CP) - The co-director of the Christian Peacemakers Teams says the family of freed Christian peace activist James Loney kept his sexual orientation quiet out of fear for his safety.

Oh, yes, you just know the wingnuts are going to do something with this. You just don't know what.

Oh sure we do, CC.
It will be some motley miscellany of misspelt words which includes the phrase "ungrateful fag".

The man's sexuality has no connection to his seditious activism. However, it was wise that his family didn't publicize this. It's doubtful he would be coming home now if his Islamofascist had known.

correction.....Islamofascist captors

leftiesrlosers: Why would you say about a man who is dedicated to peace that "his seditious activism"? What is "seditious" about Peace???

Judging by your 'handle', I would not be so quick to call other people losers. Obviously, you are incapable of intelligent discourse.

CC, you have a great blog!

my best to you,

"Islamofascist" ... is that like "Christofascist" but not quite?

Being somewhat baffo'd, what do "seditious activism" mean?

Sedition="Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state".

And the state would be...Canada? The US? Iraq? And the authority would be...? I got nuthin'.

But I quite agree the hostages were fortunate to be freed, instead of their captors executing them for /any number/ of excuses.

The irony balloons went up simply because a 'good works' Christian also has the courage to show his love personally, as well as humanly and politically. Which trips every neocon religious alarm buzzer on the board. Hopefully there's an overload fuse box, but it's doubtful.

I'm glad our Canadians came back to their loved ones. I'm glad there was a conspiracy of 'non-free' press and people more concerned with one's well being than exploiting the sexuality angle. I'm glad this country is becoming more accepting of same gender pairing and that the general press reports were of relief and celebration of reunion.

My condolences go out to those close to the American gentleman of their group.

Without a doubt, hateful, violent, deluded people are common in the world. I'd just rather people in this country not blindly march among their ranks, unable to see the mirror held up when they cry "monster!".

...which sentiment, I guess, will earn me my place in Righteous Hell as well. Book the party in the Canadian Room. That would be the bottom level where it's all frozen. Where else would we be?

Niles,
You only posted one definition of the word "sedition". Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I can't say whether you didn't post the entire defition in the name of brevity or because it was inconvenient. Here's the full definition of "sedition".

sedition:
1. Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state.
2. Insurrection; rebellion.

rebellion:
1. Open, armed, and organized resistance to a constituted government.
2.An act or a show of defiance toward an authority or established convention.

And the official motto of CPT (from their website)"

CPT's Motto: "Getting In the Way”

unofficial warning: do not view CPT website on a full stomach

CC,

In my opinion, the term "Islamofascist" is an appropriate one.

fascism: A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
Oppressive, dictatorial control.
.....................
And as for your bit of moral equivalence:
"Islamofascist" ... is that like "Christofascist" but not quite?

Christianity also went through a dark period hundreds of years ago with the burning of heretics at the stake.

the key words in the above statement are "hundreds of years ago".....and "went through".

leftiesrlosers:

If one accepts your definitions above, then the United States is currently a Christofascist state:

* "centralization of authority under a dictator"? Check.

* "stringent socioeconomic controls"? To a large extent, check.

* "suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship"? Oh, yeah, check and double check.

* "a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism"? That pretty much describes the Bush administration to a T, doesn't it? Check.

I think you've pretty much disproved that "hundreds of years ago" thing, don't you?

CC,
WOW....You must be living and seeing things from some kind of alternate reality. Your "checks" fail on each and every count.

centralization of authority under a dictator"? The election must have been an illusion? Or it was fixed? selected, not elected, right?

stringent socioeconomic controls"? free market economy must be another illusion?

suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship"?
that censorship must be why you can't host a weblog that largely opposes US policy....oh, wait a sec..

a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism"?
the USA isn't the least racist country on the planet, the one built on immigration?
