Wake me up when another year of pointless CBA idiocy has gone by.

If anyone had asked, I would've said that there was no way the CBA organizers could fuck up this category any more spectacularly than they did last year.
Obviously, I would be wrong.
Maybe they're hoping the nominees' heads will explode at being called Feminists.
Those who nominated that slate of anti-feminists did so deliberately in order to corrupt the category.
When I first noticed the multiple nominations for sda at CBA, I posted a comment. I suggested that sda, FFOF, crux, and others of that ilk should be considered in a sub-category: Anti-Feminism.
Those gals proudly claim to live a life unfettered by any of the oppressions denounced by the feminazis, and greatly enjoy the gains that feminism has fostered.
Yet day after day they crap all over feminists.
None of those bloggers write about gender equality, women's issues or from a feminist perspective. Blob Blogging Wingnut writes obsessively about criminalizing abortion from a fundamentalist Catholic perspective. Idée fixe, anyone? One-note ukelele?
If the moderators of CBA do not reject these nominations, that category is meaningless.
That's fine. In their eagerness to mock the category, they split the vote, and we will have the pleasure of voting against them.
dbo:
You can't reject their nominations because, the instant you do, they will of course scream discrimination and censorship and lefties trampling on their freedom of speech and so on blah blah blah.
The only way to have meaningful blogger awards is to, quite simply, keep those people away because everything they touch turns to shit. Everything.
If you let Canada's wingnuts and whackjobs participate, they will fuck things up. There is no other way to put it. And that's why, once again, I want nothing to do with the CBAs. Because it's going to turn into a worthless exercise in right-wing freeping and vandalism. Like everything else they turn their attention to.
This is why I didn't use an open nominations format for the CBAs.
cc - vandalism - word of the day :)
Couldn't have found a better one myself.
those are some prime candidates
Thanks for the vote of confidence CC, as usual.
I fail to see why you'd be upset if the usual suspects you pick on, whine and cry about not being included in a category they fail to meet the criteria for eligibility.
Nominations may be open, but the category is still judged, and it won't be me or NBCD deciding who gets to compete for the title, it will be someone who is not a political blogger. Who knows at this point if they'll be able to make everyone happy. I don't see a way, when there are two distinct sides who have made it their mission in life to be unhappy if the other faction is.

Nice attempt at a snap! there. Next time, you might want to make it coherent.
Here's a clue, Saskboy -- feminism can be defined as:
1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
I defy you to find a single post on any of the blogs cited by CC putting forth either of those views.
You're welcome, I'm sure.
Oh yes. I blogged at Birth Pangs about this.
Canadian Blog Awards opens Feminist category to anti-feminists.
I don't see a way, when there are two distinct sides who have made it their mission in life to be unhappy if the other faction is.
The right way is to ignore the controversy and let the two factions make idiots of themselves.
Robert, you can picture me touching my nose in the style of a party game.
LuLu, you don't need to "defy" me, just tell it to the judge (when they are announced). Convincing me is irrelevant because I'm already on your side (I think), and am not making the eligibility decisions for most of the categories in the CBAs.
Whoa, kids, hold on just a sec. While it seems like I'm giving Saskboy a whack, the truth is that he's in an unwinnable position.
If he opens up the nominations and voting to all and sundry, then the wingnuts are going to fuck it up, as they always do.
If, on the other hand, he tries to get a grip on it and culls the obviously idiotic nominations so that the awards are actually meaningful, he will naturally be accused of anti-wingnut discrimination and the shrieking will commence.
In short, he can't win. The only solution is to have strictly left-of-center, "progressive" awards, and let the wingunts run their own. But as long as he tries to do this "big tent" thing, the CBAs are doomed to failure.
CC, that is of course the conclusion I've come to as well, because it's the only one that a fair person would conclude with.
Last year we said no explicitly feminist category title (even though there was more than one category suitable to the cause, but I digress and dig up buried hatchets in my back) and that spawned a successful F-Word blog awards. It only stands to reason that if this year the faction who didn't want a "Feminism" category don't get their way, then they will set up their own fun blog awards to further convince the CBAs that they need to be included too.
But my opinion is just mine. What happens in the CBAs this year is not up to me when it comes to the Best Feminist Blog category. Whether or not the judge comes to the same conclusion as us, CC, is yet to be known.
It's the Sarah Palin strategy. Nominate someone of XX genetics and identity who publically, consistently and agressively takes stances against anything that can be considered supportive of lessening the crap patriarchy does to both women and men...
...then in panel two, when said quislingita is called out on the merits of those stances, listen to the shrieking *outrage* of how the progressives are being sexist and exposed hypocrites.
After all, you don't expect the usual suspects to avoid that Palin-martyr badge do you? I'd be morbidly curious to see which of them would actually tout themselves as a 'feminist' blog should they win. I suspect right after they finish telling us how they didn't need no steenking feminist movement to get where they have in life.
I just think the whole thing is suffering from too much voting (or anarchy, as it were). I'm not a fan of the "marketplace of ideas," which seems to worship the concept that what's good or useful or interesting is simply what's popular. All it's giving us is a lot screeching and additional fracturing of opinion into smaller and more irrelevant groupuscules and is taking us far away from what I originally thought would be the real value of blogging...presenting a real challenge to the establishment media that controls/manipulates public discourse.
Personally, I'd prefer a peer-oriented approach; a competition judged only by people who actually blog and not the rest of us, who don't have any stake whatsoever in the quality of the blogs we're weighing in on.
I don't see any conservative blogs nominated in the progressive category or vice versa. That's because there is an alternative.
If you're going to have a feminist category and open nominations, the only sensible solution is to have an anti-feminist category. The wingnuts can nominate other wingnuts in their own category.
POSTED IN THE CBA BEST FEMINIST COMMENTS BY MOI JUST NOW:
Some-people-are-more-equal-than-others types behind blogs such as SDA, Blazing Cat Fur and Five Feet of Fury don't fit any definition of feminist. If you want to start a category for best ''Women Bloggers'' -- because, you know, we're like ''women drivers'' -- well, then, I suppose these ladies might qualify. I find their inclusion here by their fans a revealing comment on their true opinion of women's rights. While I appreciate the nomination of Broadsides -- thanks Fern -- I do not, on any level, want to be associated with women who rail against people for their religion, skin colour, sexual orientation or attempt to secure equality for themselves and others.
Oh well, it's gone now.
Heh heh... I'm going to go nominate SheenaVision for best Mommy blogger.
I just posted this over at sda.
It may be deleted.
sda deserves a category of her own.
sda's fan base seems to think that it's all about feminism but based on observations there seems to be 2 types of feminists and/or women. Those sda's male admirers want to f**k and those they do not. They are very clear about which category they assign to sda.
BILF?
