Even wingnuts have their limits.

An e-mailer brings my attention to yet another example of depressing scientific illiteracy by the Ottawa Citizen's David Warren. It's not the hopeless illogic in that piece that amuses; no, it's this plaintive appeal from a reader that is clearly not prepared to go down that road of batshit stupidity:

Among all the letters I have received on my Darwin columns -- mostly blind support, or blind abuse -- one struck me as especially worth answering:

“Wake up, man. Whether or not ‘Darwinism’ is good science, it is accepted as good science by most intelligent people, and if you persist in attacking it you will lose the respect of people who are prepared to listen to you on many other subjects. Why don’t you have the tactical sense to leave Darwinism alone?”

Translation: "Please, for the love of God, David, I like you but you're really creeping me out."

Eviscerating the rest of David's incomprehensible drooling is left as an exercise for the reader.

UPDATE: To my utter lack of surprise, Jeffrey has already been there and done that.

This is another one of of your jokes, isn't it? No actual newspaper would publish this drivel....
o.m.f.g.

Newspapers are publishing these creationist lunatics because they're not allowed...yet...to feature full-frontal nudity and explicit sex.

This stuff is intellectual pornography.

Sadly Chris, the Ottawa Citizen feels it is fitting to publish this imbecile 3+ times per week.

For years they have been trying to get me to move up to a full 7-day subscription from a weekend only subscription. If it weren't for the fact that the only other newspaper in town was the Sun, I wouldn't even have the weekend edition, manly because of Warren and Leonard Stern, if there were any alternative resembling a newspaper in this city.

i tried to read some more of his stuff. Gack!
But, I get your point, Mike. When I lived in TO I got the Sunday Sun just so I could read Barbara Amiel, fly into a rage, and put her under the litter box. Very cathartic.

If Warren is correct, then the Darwin Awards would have no meaning.

I'm a Christian rightwingnut, by your definition, and I look forward to the annual Darwin Award announcements.

Faith is SUPPOSED to exist without proof (i.e. that is the definition of faith, no?). So I can believe in God and Jesus Christ and evolution all at the same time. Evolution is science. God & Jesus are faith. They are completely unrelated IMHO.

Warren is a bit of an idiot savant, IMHO. Sometimes brilliant, but usually not.
