Bye bye, Weasel Boy.

Despite my painfully explicit instructions here, Weasel Boy couldn't resist adding one more inane, off-topic, tap dancing comment which, as I promised I would do if he didn't abide by my conditions, I deleted. His major point was to storm off in a huff, vowing never to waste any more breath on me.

Let's all remember that promise, shall we?

I replied to a similar post on his blog. Here is how my reply read:

Actually, you seemed to invent that "unofficial delegation" nonsense to avoid admitting to an obvious error. DeLay was not part of the official U.S. delegation, which happened to be the only U.S delegation. The word delegation is a noun referring to a group of people who have been delegated to accomplish some task. Tom DeLay was not "delegated" to go; he simply went.

I'd call that match for CC and say that you are severing community with him out of embarrassment.

Less than an hour later, he no longer allows comments on his blog.

Never mind. Comments are back.

Ah, that first comment of yours brings up a point I didn't appreciate -- the very definition of the word "delegation".

As you point out, a delegation is not simply a bunch of folks who get together to do something or go somewhere.

According to the official definition here, a primary meaning is, "A person or group of persons officially elected or appointed to represent another or others."

Under that proper definition, one could argue that there is one, and only one, delegation -- the 5-person group selected by the Bush administration. There is no such thing as the unofficial Senate or House "delegations". Those aren't delegations -- they're just a bunch of politicians who want to go see a dead guy, nothing more.

In short, DeLay is even more full of crap than I thought he was originally (if that's even possible).

Nice catch.
