... pretty soon you're talking real money:
Security tab for G8 and G20 summits could top $900 million
OTTAWA – The cost of securing next month’s G8 and G20 summits has soared to at least $833 million – an eye-popping sum that has some wondering whether it’s time to rethink how international summits are organized.
The federal government on Tuesday revealed it had set aside an extra $654 million, on top of the $179 million already earmarked, to provide security for the G8 summit in Huntsville and the G20 summit in Toronto.
In unrelated news, the Stephen Harper Party of Canada wants you to know that times are tight and there's just not enough money to go around so, sadly, some people are just going to have to do without. You know ... like these kids:
If only there was $15 million to spare. Pity. If only they'd been white. And Christian. That's where the real money is, you know.

Don't forget! They are also spending $1 million to bring Kathy & Regis (?) to PEI!!! Yessiree, bob! $1 million smackeroos!!!
Blogging tories will defend the expenses so long as someone is suffering.
Curiously, even some Blogging Tories are recoiling from this monstrously indefensible waste of money. I'm guessing this is their brief moment of lucidity. Things will be back to normal shortly.
They'll pay $900 million to protect their arrogant asses, where they can plot to slash social spending so that we can learn to live within our means?
No wonder they have to spend so much on security. It's a vicious circle.
If are borders and by extension airport security so "good", why would all this money be needed?
Surely with the no-fly lists in place and the fact that these delegates will be coming by plane for the most part, should it not follow that most "bad guys" will never reach Canadian soil... or are the HarperCons and MIC saying that what they put in place to protect "us" just does not work...
... Because if this is the case, I want my civil liberties back..
