I'm for bed ...

The hoping and changing and sparkly ponies will just have to go on without me. But when I wake up tomorrow, everything better be alllllllllllllllllllll fixed.

I'm just sayin'.

All kidding aside ...
you have no idea how happy I am to see Grampy McSame and Bible Spice get buried in the landslide. It really is just too, too delicious.

Now where's my pony?

Still waiting ...

Hark! Do I scrubbing noises over at Teh Boggin' Torees as the nasty anti-Obama posts are being *disappeared*?

Remember Obama-Gate, Mr. President.

Huh, called it sooner than I thought.

I admit, when I was on a forum, and one guy was all like HOLYSHITHOLYSHIT, my first thought was "Oh, geez. Did somebody take a pot shot at Obama? PLEASE let him still be alive."

And I saw it was all over, bar the stabbing.

I see celebrations in some of my usual hangouts, but let me just say this. At most, it's jubilation that the dealie didn't get totally fucked over or taking pleasure in the pain of wingnuts and other supporters of concentrated evil.

Nary a pony or sparkly unicorn or dewy-eyed proclamation that All Is Now Officially Well in sight. I'm not dumb enough to pretend that such things aren't being said, but I think CERTAIn posters hereabouts (eyes the offenders meaningfully) do themselves any favours pretending that's the rule.

This is A Victory. This...is a start. And it matters. Can we at least acknowledge THAT much without the high-horsed rhetoric and gratuitous flashing of Independant Thinker credentials?

It is a start, I'll happily give you that.

And that's all I'll give you because I'm still very much in PSA's camp on this.

Landslide? "War Hero" got 48% of the vote.

Landslide my left nut...

Furthermore, I hope Obama goes all anarchist on the Democrats and starts making some crazy changes and radical decisions: Kucinich, McKinney, Franken and Nader in the cabinet, making Palin Ambassador to Russia, and giving the Veterans' Affairs portfolio to McCain. I'm not holding my breath, but still...

Massively disappointed over Michele O's dress choice tonight. Bodes poorly for the inaugural ball.

WV = "undestio"

Hey guys. Does Obama's win make cynicism passé? Present a motivation to get out from the basement and git a life? Encourage cessation of sniping from the sidelines? Compel to involved in something worthwhile? Laugh? Hope? Love? Enjoy?

Finally, an adiministration that will re-acquaint Americans with the proper pronunciation of "nuclear."

...I think I'm having a hope-gasm.

wv: "kings."

congratulations to the obama team for their victory.

robin, i will continue to apply my critical faculties to the politics of these times. if you are offended, there is always a short pier and i invite you to take a long walk upon it. this american election was sold on the idea of change, i will believe it when i see it and not before. i do not give politicians, no matter how well spoken, charismatic or attractive, a blank cheque of faith. sorry.

i believe that america is, at this moment, a rogue state. guilty of crimes against humanity, her outgoing leadership needs to be held to account. and the leadership preparing to take up the mantle of power has many a grave task ahead. i remain unconvinced by obama's stirring words and his expert delivery. that is largely because i recognize that he is just a single man, a politician. i have lost my trust in the people of america to choose their course wisely. what has come to pass in this election is an exercise in salesmanship. it is time for the salesman to deliver.

'yes we can' is a dandy slogan. it is also devoid of value. the last case for change that america presented the world was in the wake of 9/11, the day that everything changed. in just a short few years, america squandered the good will of the world, the american people took up arms in bloody vengeance committed atrocities and allowed their leaders to soil their most sacred document, the constitution. and all the while they chanted u.s.a. waved their flags and stood defiant.

one election is not a start, it is only the opportunity to make a start. i'm selfish enough to hope that obama ushers in an age of achievement and redemption for his nation, since their thrashing and wallowing has such impact on others around the world. but i will not be holding my breath.

So 51% of the electorate voted for "change".
It says something about our expectations of that country, not to mention their own, that this is deemed a reason to celebrate.

TRex said...

51%? Much more in fact.

Some advice for the cynics, try tempering it with a little humor/snark, otherwise you're just coming across as self important and more to the point, fucking boring.

Alison said...

Apologies, Trex, it is indeed "much more".
It's 52.3% of the popular vote with 95% of polls reporting.
Snarky enough for you?

Lindsay Stewart said...

hi trex, thanks for bringing your sage advice and wisdom to bear on this most pressing of issues. gosh, how awfully awful of me not to be amusing you with my stubborn insistence on remaining critical. my failure to be "amusing" largely stems from the utterly humourless reception that any criticisms of obama have been met with, snarky, humourous or otherwise.

of course there is a solution to your problem, it has worked brilliantly for the last eight years for another set of true believers. stick your head deep into the rectum of the true believer in front of you. the comforting warmth and singular blind protection from contrary opinion will keep you safe. see. that was a bit of snark mixed in with a haughty dismissal, do you feel all better now trex? are you still bored? get hooped.

sooey said...

Sheena, you'd be remiss if you didn't mention Cindy McCain's awesome gold suit. My one regret in life is that she'll never be First Lady.

How long for the McCain marriage? Days? Weeks?

TRex said...

psa:you talk too much, enjoy your irrelevance.

Lindsay Stewart said...

but trex darling, what happened to the humour? was it crushed under the showers of rainbow dust? look at our masthead bub, canadian (as in not american) cynic (as in we reserve the right to cast a cynical eye on the happenings around us). you are still free to not read anything i write. isn't that magical?!?

now go jam your noggin twixt your nethers. me and my irrelevance will be watching the unfolding drama of magical change and commenting as i see fit. if you care to address the substance of my commentaries and criticisms fine, otherwise you're just another camp follower, another chin without a bib.
