A "few courses" away from a Master's, you say?

Hmmmmmmm ...

The thing is, most Master's degrees require a thesis in addition to courseware. So unless Jean had already completed his Master's thesis, he was a lot further away from a degree than just a few courses.

Also, define "few."

"Few"? You know, like "some". "A bunch". Any number between 1 and infinity.

I personally only finished high school, but I shall now proudly describe my educational status as "a few courses short of a Post-Doc in Astrophysics".

  2. Even with my carpenter red seal being my education pinnacle I can safely say that I am "a few courses away from a master."
How many a "few" is does not matter apparently.

  3. "Few" as in "Few bricks short of a load".

  4. Did you know Brian Jean... was a few courses away from a Master's in Environmental Law... but he couldn't understand what was being taught, and failed those courses... again and again, so he quit.

I'm a few votes away from being voted President of the European Union.

  6. Wait, wait, I get it . . . so the guy took law, apparently. Got a B.A.
And did take some postgraduate courses, from what Wiki says, enough to get a lawyer license.

I reckon the mislead is in the "environmental" part. As in "A masters in environmental law involves a lot of the same courses as a masters in any other kind of law, plus a few specific courses about actual environmental law stuff and maybe even about environmental issues more generally, and Jean took a lot of that other stuff, so all he was missing was anything whatsoever to do with environmental law". Just a few courses, but also meaning he knows dick all about what he's trying to give the impression he knows something about.

I think the operative word here is "was." As in, Did you know... Brian Jean was a few courses away from a Master's in Environmental Law, (then he quit or didn't enrol.)
