It's a lot easier to rent a truck in the US than a plane.
All you need to rent a U-Haul in the US is your regular driver's license. You can start a U-Haul with a set of keys. The clue is you're not going to find a U-Haul. or a rental car, in the US without an automatic transmission, because the auto companies stopped donating cars with standard transmissions to public school driver training classes in, roughly, 1965. If Americans are not capable of driving a car with a standard transmission, how many Americans do you think are capable of flying a plane?
You have to have a lot of money to afford a plane. Of course, and here's the nut, if you can find a way to keep half your money from going to the government, you do have a fair amount of disposable income. That is the evil of automatic withholding by employers in the conventional economy. It is also where Obama's decision to tax wealthy Americans to death comes in.
So, us po' folk are going to have to stick with U-Hauls & fertilizer; only the rich guys are going to fly their planes into IRS buildings.
