After all we don't talk about a 'free country' and mean a country with no laws, so why should a 'free market' mean a market with no rules. He said that arguments over stuff like this typically devolve into something over the meaning of a word rather than the substance of what the person meant.

Ok, I can buy that. Maybe he's right. Maybe kerry and Backseat didn't mean a 'free market' where there are no rules at all, and the only laws are the ones that supply and demand force upon the market. So to be sure I knew what the hell I was talking about I looked up the word.

free market
Business governed by the laws of supply and demand, not restrained by government interference, regulation or subsidy.

So, while I'm willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt that perhaps they are using a word that they don't meant to use. I can understand that. I've had an attack of Bush disease and said some shit I haven't meant before. However, I still stick to my two part argument:

1. If you don't know what you're talking about - shut up.

2. If you use a word and suddenly everybody's all on your case. Check your word usage and if need be clarify yourself further. Don't be a dick about it just say - "No, wait. That's not what I meant.. I meant X."

However, since the right wing morons I've heard are constantly going on about how industries should be deregulated and that 'market forces' should dictate how the market behaves. I seriously doubt this was just a Bushism. More likely it is just some idiots using a word they really don't understand to justify their own lack of skill in logic.E in MDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10327814892445709779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6708375.post-43356495769498486052007-11-20T12:32:00.000-05:002007-11-20T12:32:00.000-05:00*sigh* Those people make my head hurt. She wants to...*sigh* Those people make my head hurt.

She wants to file a class action suit to recover money she feels she is being ripped off for by free market capitalists because she doesn't want the government to get involved.

What's that phrase you use? "The Stupid! It Burns!"

People like this make me wonder how the hell we made it out of the caves at all.E in MDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10327814892445709779noreply@blogger.com
