The same with all of the other states, plus D.C.

So, here's the method:

1)divide 1 by the number of years listed in the table for each state. This will give the fraction of oil each state will use in a year. (Putting it all in decimal form will make the next step easier.)

2)Add up all of the resulting fractions. This will generate the fraction of all of the oil that will be used in 1 year by all of the states. The answer is 0.692.

3) Divide 1 (representing 100% of the oil) by 0.692. The answer is 1.445 years, or slightly under a year-and-a half.

Not bad for an art shcool graduate, huh?Corihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00931563994508917177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6708375.post-1113578751455205682005-04-15T11:25:00.000-04:002005-04-15T11:25:00.000-04:00The innumeracy of Americans (and I mean American i...The innumeracy of Americans (and I mean American in the sense of Unitedstatesian) is the biggest aide in letting the Republicans pull off all of their shenanigans. From electoral fraud, to Social Security, to tax cuts, to ANWR. You name it, and the main reason the people are fooled, is because they don't understand basic numerical concepts.

I'll see if I can find some time today to work on your problem, but work has been pretty heavy this week.Corihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00931563994508917177noreply@blogger.com
